Love all these posts. I use an old wall pocket to hold my small rulers! Works great! I use the baby wipes plastic tubbs to put things such as buttons in. I write on them with a magic marker. Easy to find.

GREAT idea!! Now if I just had all those I lost from my "tomboy" years, think Mom tossed them as a bad influence. At least I didn't lose them, I don't think! :lol:

I "borrowed" a handy tool from DH's tray. It's a dental mirror, small and swivals so you can see where the needle goes. also a bent tweezer. It holds the needle so I can 'do it myself'. The artheritis has got me! all of the tips on here are wonderful! You gals are very inventive! Thank all of you.

Almost forgot. . . I use my bicentennial quart canning jars to store buttons. (I also want to display the jars!) And as for the buttons, I use tie-twisties to hold matching buttons together in these jars!

That's a great idea! We have always used a Coke bottle, but the pouring spout on a coffee creamer avoids spills.

This topic has led to using many household items for other things I use in my other passion, bead weaving. The two are related in my little mind, creating pictures with seed beads and fabric have to be my favorite past time activities.

I would imagine it makes the thread go through the fabric better.
Cheaper than beeswax!
O.K. Heres an oldie but goodie, simply run the needle or pin through your hair 2 or 3 strokes, it will glide right thru the fabric unless rusted. Don't go too deep or you could scratch your scalp. The first time I did this not thinking about it in front of one of my sewing students, I had to explain and they were amazed at the results.
Yes, have been doing this for years! Works great.

I store my buttons in quart canning jars - shiny in one jar, old ones in one jar and new ones in another. At a craft show I bought wired lids for the jars that also had a mantle for a lampshade and I made lamps out of the jars. Great for storing buttons, keeps them dust free and I can enjoy the pretties.

My mom and grandmom used to do this, almost unconsciously.
My mom also did it with diaper pins. 8-)
