I mainly buy fqs, mix & match as I find ones I like. When I run low, or find good prices, I buy some blenders & tone on tones. I love batiks too, mostly buy fqs in them. Charms are fun, but seem to be more expensive, same with the other precuts.

I think you ment the other Rose but I will answer.
Fat quarters are made by cuting a 1 yd piece into 4 pieces that should measure 18 in by 22 in but they do cheat on you sometimes. Yes I wash fats but not charms (5 in squares of a line of fabric). Layer cakes are a line of 10 in squares.
Jelly rolls are a line cut into 2 1/2 in strips that are cut from selvage edge to sevage edge.
Your more quality fabric companeys give you about 42 cuts of a line of fabrics.

Don't feel too much peer pressure to build a stash. Buy what you need for projects and you are bound to get some that don't work like you thought, so those go in your stash and over time it will build up. Remember a stash has to be stored in an organized way or it's not going to get used. What storage space do you have? Neutrals and blenders make good things for your stash and specialty fabrics are better bought as you need them for a project. (Written by a non-stasher who has ended up building up a small stash over the years.)

I plan to work on smaller projects so a small stash might be helpful, but I understand what you mean about building a stash. Right now I'm not even sure what kind of material to buy. I'm stating out with tote bags to be used for grocery shopping.

I think, after awhile, it multiplies overnight, on it's own, lol! Just work on projects & you will gradually accumulate your own stash, no biggie. The main thing is to enjoy your quilting, stash will come, trust me, lol!...
