My sister does quilling, with paper. the ladies here are talking about twilling, with thread to make designs which I had never heard of either. I am going to look it up and maybe practice it this winter.

NeedlenThread.com has a tutorial on twilling. It is also called palestrina stitch I believe. I saw a demonstration on twilling at a quilt show I attended a few weeks ago and it interested me too. One of the quilts was done in twilling, simple designs but a beautiful piece of art. Believe I will have to try it now that the weather is turning cooler.

Thank you ever so much DixieDoodle, I visited this website and found the tutorial right away. I plan on visiting it often for other stitches she offered, it has been since I was a small child since I have done very much of this kind of needlework that my mother taught to me. This is going to be easy to carry along with me to doctor visits waiting rooms.

You are actually thinking of "QUILLING". :)

Yes, that's exactly what I thought twirling is. I saw some packaged twirling paper in ACMoore last week. Never tried it though.

Me too so I was wondering how would it be incorporated into a quilt!

I saw a lovely bride quilt some years ago.It had blocks of pastel /flower blocks together with twilling blocks in heart, flower designs.Really beautiful, I did start some of the twilling blocks then put them away and forgot all about them.I will now look them outand combine with pretty soft pastel blocks.---another u.f.o in the making ! I believe you mean "quillting" with what you are describing as a paper craft.

Here's the Needle Thread link that shows the Palestrina stitch...this is interesting enough for me to pull out my embroidery stuff again. http://www.needlenthread.com/2007/04...-tutorial.html
