How to do twilling
Recently while on a Shop Hop, I came across a new technique called TWILLING. The shop owner had kits made up to sell, but didn't have written instructions, she did show me how it was done. But after getting home I couldn't remember how to do it. It is something on the order of the old Chicken Scratch stitch (think that was the name of it), been looking for instructions on line with no success. Does anyone know where to find a video of how to do it? Would love to use it on quilt blocks for old fashion looking quilt with '30's fabric.

Interesting, I'd never heard of twilling before.

NeedlenThread.com has a tutorial on twilling. It is also called palestrina stitch I believe. I saw a demonstration on twilling at a quilt show I attended a few weeks ago and it interested me too. One of the quilts was done in twilling, simple designs but a beautiful piece of art. Believe I will have to try it now that the weather is turning cooler.

Quilter's newsletter magazine in February last year had picture directions on how to do it. I was intrigued then and posted my sample under Twilling? I will post a picture here so you can see how it turned out. I thought it would be a good stitch to add to Redwork.

Is it a type of thick blanket stitch?

It is a little raised stitch that kind of makes a knot on the original stitching. It is an old embroidery stitch called the Palestrina.

Huh. Who knew. I always associated "twilling" with a paper craft where paper strips are tightly curled to make beautiful pictures! :D

quilling is paper wrapped tightly to make designs. I didn't know it at the time, I was bored at wook and used to make pictures out of thin strips. Then I saw the beautiful things you can make. so pretty. google quilling, you'll see it.
