I would paper piece the 4 patches that have the 2 different size points. I think the rest can be pieced traditionally.
Thanks for the question & the diagram!

Would you begin piecing it from the center out or row by row? Great info!

That is an interesting block design. Thanks to eparys for mapping it out. This would be great in a star block sampler or even in a quilt made entirely of this block either in just a couple of fabrics or scrappy.

The center is 1/2 square triangles placed around a solid fabric square. It is the color placement that makes it look a little more difficult I think. The outside blocks are a off center 1/2 triangle and I saw Jenny Doan do a tutorial on this. Not sure what the name of the tutorial was-maybe scrappy off center star??? I will look and see if I can find the tut.

Thank you Jordan! Looking forward to seeing the video

I think if I were going to go to the trouble of drawing up a paper pieced section I would do the whole section I have marked in red, then the orange section I would make as a simple full sized hst cut down to the rectangle size needed. The rest is just 5 squares of fabric, eliminating some of the bulky seams in the process and you could use simple strips for the paper pieced sections.

Looks to me like a variation of a friendship star. But great job on the previous mapping. Makes it very easy to visualize and manage.

WOW you quilters are fantastic. I saw the nine patch of HSTs in the center, but making a PP pattern just made my head hurt LOL Thanks for the detailed diagram. You are the best. I may never use the pattern but loved how the whole process unfolded and the different participant ideas. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Oh, oh.... I see PP pattern. That's all I like to do...
On my old computer (IMac 3) I could make any size of block with Pagemaker. But with this IMac 5 can't do it (I hate this wordprocesser - pages..... now I do by hand...
