how to enlarge a square quilt
 

this is my latest quilt, unfortunately it is a square one and I am thinking of making it rectangular by adding extra borders on two ends..... does any of you quilters have a opinion on that or have done that? I have extra yardage of two of the fabrics in this quilt. I think that the quilt will be more useful if it is rectangular size.

Autumn colours are always a favourite of mine, and so I am quite drawn to it.

Of course, you can add borders to just the top and bottom, if that is what you want.
As they say ... Your Quilt! Your Rules!

The other way would be to extend your block design to make it longer.
Naturally, that would mean some reverse stitching, and perhaps you do not want to do that.

As for square vs. rectangular quilts ... you know how they will be used, as to which is better.
For me, squares are my go-to shape, not matter whether it is a bed or couch quilt.
That's what works best for me .......

Is is very appealing to me as is.

i would make a top and bottom border out of the autumn 4p's.. probably keeping them on point. that will carry the theme through and not look like you were trying to add on. it's very pretty.

I would have added more blocks to make it rectangular before attaching the setting triangles. But that's just me. :thumbup:

you could do piano border, then white strip, then another piano border. on both ends. Should work well. nice quilt!!

You could put a row of square in square at the top and bottom to
match the pattern and on point scheme.

I love that pattern, and your colors are great. I would add a bit on all four sides, and more for the length you want.

Beautiful colors. Love the fall look. I too prefer rectangle quilts. When I add extra to top and bottom I add slim borders on the sides and wider borders of same color on the top and bottom. For even more length you can add one of the other colors in a thin line between the two end borders and skip the sides.
