Gee, I am suppose to stay out of the fabric stores til January if I were to listen to my dh :) but I have already been there twice this week. Such good sales. Wondering if that twice a week is normal or if others are out doing me because I certainly wouldnt want that to happen  So how many trips are we making each week?

Cyn 12-09-2010 06:00 PM

I can usually hold my visits to once a week!

Granna of 5 12-09-2010 06:13 PM

I don't have time to go to LQS I am too busy buying on here and other online shops.

deedum 12-09-2010 06:31 PM

Gee, I try not to get that started by buying online much, fabric anyway. I have bought thread and such. I like to see it and touch it, it would be way too easy to shop too often online. Maybe I just haven't got there yet. Apparently, I need a bigger fabric budget!

BMP 12-09-2010 06:33 PM

I go 1-2 weekly if I have a project going other than that I wont go unless I have something in mind to work on, its just too much temptation otherwise...maybe after the holidays are over and I have more free cash to use.

Up North 12-09-2010 07:16 PM

I have to drive 100 miles round trip so maybe once a month! I can't even buy thread where I live!

tjradj 12-09-2010 07:34 PM

It all depends on the week. Once a week is the norm for me, but when there are sales to be shopped, well, it could be daily. When I have a quilt on the go, it all depends on what I need, what I want, what I think I need, what I think I want etc, etc,.
The ladies at my local Fabricland and the one LQS that I go to are so nice to deal with that I could go in there daily just to chat.
So basically, if I don't answer my phone - I'm fabric shopping :)

luckylindy333 12-09-2010 07:41 PM

I am on a run to try and use up some of my stash- but my pieces are getting smaller and smaller (LOL). I am taking a machine quilting class at our LQS on Saturday, though, so who knows what may happen?

sandynavas 12-09-2010 07:47 PM

I've been known to hit Jo-Anns twice in one day. If I get out I manage to get them, Hobby-Lobby, and Wal-Mart (the only ones close by). I'm a remnant buyer so I can easily manage to hide my stash.

Jim's Gem 12-09-2010 07:57 PM

Usually only once a week. My local store is right next to a Trader Joe's and I visit there once a week or so and just have to stop in and see what's going on.

isnthatodd 12-09-2010 07:59 PM

It depends on how much time I have. Sometimes I go twice in one week, other times I don't go for a month or so. I have enough stash to last several lifetimes, and I am trying to use up some of it, but of course there is always the need for one special fabric. My husband encourages me to go whenever I want!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one, lol.

pojo 12-09-2010 08:30 PM

Maybe once in two months.

OMG, I would have to take a trailer if I only got to a LQS once a month. I would go weekly but then I am friends with the quilt shop owner and employee so I go in for a coffee with them and usually leave with tons of fabric :)

deema 12-09-2010 08:46 PM

I haven't been in a few weeks because I'm working on finishing Christmas projects, for which I already have all required materials and I *really* need to focus on them and get 'em done, because we're celebrating early.

My IL's are coming up this weekend to celebrate (MIL's quilt is finished, its MY family I'm still working on!), and I may hit up Fabricland on Monday because W&N batting is on sale for 50% off, as well as all of the Christmas fabric, which I want to get for next year!...not that I *need* it (I have enough batting for ALL of the quilts I'm planning for the next year!)...but I WILL eventually use it.

I try to limit my shopping trips to once or twice a month...at least, for shopping IN STORE...Shopping online is MUCH cheaper for me and I've done that...uh, three? times in the last month, not including one or two trips to the store. lol I really do have enough going on to last me until next Christmas, lol.

jolo 12-10-2010 05:54 AM

My dilemma is mine is right next door, and the owner is not only a neighbor but a friend also. So needless to say, I go every day. not to buy every time but to visit, and I have to admit most days I do get something. Yesterday I bought 3 Christmas gifts, small items but neat stuff for a quilting buddy.

qwkslver 12-10-2010 05:57 AM

I try to hold mine at once a week two with an occasional online purchase. No fabric shops around me and Walmart is limited.

bigsis63 12-10-2010 06:05 AM

according to my DH too many times!!!!!!!!!!!!

reginalovesfabric 12-10-2010 06:05 AM

depends on how many coupons I have, our local Hancocks honors Joann's coupons and I have 6 50% off....going today on the way home.

I went so much to Hancocks in a months time, my friend that worked there said "you again" I told her be quite I was paying her salary

grannypat7925 12-10-2010 07:08 AM

I make sure I don't lose any JoAnn coupon values. As long as I get there in that time frame I am okay. I have enuf fabric to last the rest of my life I think.

quilt3311 12-10-2010 07:21 AM

If I were close by I would be there every day. The LQS offers an area where people can come and just sit and work on their projects. Sure brings traffic into the shop. They have 6 large tables for us plus the coffee pot is always on, and if you do not drink coffee there is hot chocolate or apple cider. (in the summer--lemonade) There is a small piggy bank type container by the coffee etc. and donations are appreciated but not required. Most usually toss in some change and they break even for having the service available.

lsmith 12-10-2010 08:28 AM

I live more than 2 hours drive from a fabric store too. I've been known to comb through my clothing looking for an item to cut apart and re-use the fabric when I run out!

sewingsuz 12-10-2010 05:35 PM

That is my problem also. It is bad to live this far away. We ar deprived.

IBQUILTIN 12-10-2010 07:10 PM

Our LQS about once a week for something. pins, needles, rulers, etc. But she tends to carry the fabric that she likes to quilt with, and I wind up having to go to Fresno anyway, so not so much there. But I'm in someplace at least once or twice a week. Connecting Threads, and Thousands of Bolts a lot

Bubblegum0077 12-10-2010 07:20 PM

My nearest JoAnns is 45 miles, so that trip is not done often. Nearest quilt shop is 13 miles and I don't go there that often either. I am trying to avoid buying right now since my stash has built up very nicely. I have bought mainly from the board members which has saved me the driving 26 to 90 miles just for fabric and that's if I buy anything. So I try to keep my purchases to a minimum. I have promised myself that I can afford to close off my screened porch to make it a sewing room that cable would have to go.....and guess what.....it did. I turned it off two days ago and haven't missed it. Kids miss the cartoons (spongebob especially) but now they have to be more active and play outside or something more creative. I need the room really bad and I am planning to take that money and buy the building materials to get it moving. Sound like a good idea?

cindygale 12-10-2010 08:11 PM

i go to JoAnn's about one a week. but they keep sending those sale flyers out...soooo. try to keep it at once a week..

yellowsnow55 12-10-2010 08:19 PM

Rarely shop is too far away, daily look online though!

som 12-11-2010 06:57 AM

if i dont show up at 3 times a week they think something has happened

eaglebeak1960 12-11-2010 07:02 AM

I found my stash from a person selling theres LOL I have a large dresser FULL!!!!!!! of fabric I do not get to a fabric store very often. My DW says I have to use most of what I have b4 she will even let me near Joanne's anymore
(she laid down the law to me)

SIGH LOL

nycbgirl 12-11-2010 07:05 AM

At least once a week to touch the fabrics. Even though I have tons at home.

drgranny 12-11-2010 03:13 PM

I had to pat myself on the back for staying out of Joann's for about two months this summer. Then I blew it by going to the LQS and buying a few pannels and a kit. I did go to Joann's last Saturday and of course they were pretty bare from Black Friday. I am the one who said, "I AM NOT GOING TO JOSNNS. Well I didn't till they had sold out of everything I would have bought. I did buy some spray adhesive and one of those big square rullers with the slits for rotery cutting. I just HAD to use those 50% off coupons. Those are what gets me every time. My mantra is BUT THEY ARE 50% OFF! ! !

mimiof3 12-12-2010 06:02 AM

Right now I am trying to finish up for the holidays and getting ready for our trip back to CT. So I haven't been to the fab shops in awhile. But I usually shop online and will go to the LQS if I am looking for something in particular for a project. But going into the LQS and looking and feeling all the new fabrics can get overwhelming - but oh it is so enjoyable.

Chrys 12-12-2010 06:27 AM

maybe once a month...but I do a lot of online buying!

Thank you, thank you, Granna of 5...(I'm a grandma of 6 :P ). If I were to admit the number of times I go onto a fabric site online, my DH would probably faint!! Soooo...lets just keep that information out of the public eye!

Doda 12-13-2010 11:52 AM

I live close to everything in Orlando. There are two Joann's 12 miles north and west of me. And there are 3 quilt shops within 15-20 minutes of me. So I struggle NOT to go to them. But like others those coupons from Joann's are the bomb, and its hard to pass them up from week to week. I don't have much of a stash so building it up is fun! So I make about 2-3 trips
each week. I'm addicted. (lol)

pdcakm 12-13-2010 11:58 AM

not sure how this averages but this last week i...

went to 2 estate sales and bought fabric, joanns and hancocks each twice, ordered online from 3 diff sites, and visited 3 lqs'. all of this was absolutely necessary. lol

marycontrary 12-13-2010 12:08 PM

Depends -- the shops I like the most are about 20+ miles away now, so I don't go often. A couple of our doctors are close to them, so every month to month and a half I make the rounds of 2 or 3 stores. I also seem to be buying a lot more online lately.

Used to go almost every day when I worked in a shop and lived in Phoenix. And then another shop opened about a mile from my home, and they were soooo nice, and there was a 31 Flavors next door to it. I was there every couple of days. Needless to say my stash is huge and I should never buy fabric again, but you know what they say -- "never say never!".

katiebear1 12-13-2010 12:08 PM

I don't go to the shops that often, but I am always browsing the online shops. Usually order something a bout every 3 weeks. But have told myself NO MORE until I get my "to do" list donr. I have fabric all sorted for ( some even cut) for 10 quilts!

owie 12-13-2010 12:13 PM

My only store available is Joanns. It is 15 minutes away. I might go 2 times a month. I prefer to buy online because the quality I get online is much better and at a much better price than Joanns. I have been watching the sales and getting nice name brand fabric at fabric.com for less than $4.00 a yard. A lot of times I have coupons off the total price. I also buy a lot from connecting threads. I love their fabric and their clearance sections. I don't like to waste the time to run to Joanns. It is time I could be sewing. I will be going on Wed. because I have a luncheon with my homemakers club and it is just a few doors down from Joanns. I know exactly what I will buy, have the coupn and have the cash in my pocket. Our budget is tight as DH retired last month so I love the coupons.

leatheflea 12-13-2010 01:34 PM

Once a week is fabric shopping day, they never said only one store!
