Is there anybody who can explain Paper Piecing to us who are not aware of the process?

I learned from a book by Valori Wells titled: "Radiant New York Beauties". Once you ' get the hang of it', it'll be easy. I use strips of fabric cut 5/8" wider than the widest area to be pieced. Then you'll be sure to have it wide enough but not waste fabric too. I think paper piecing is the only way to go if you're making a block with sharp points in it. Try using tracing paper, it tears off easier than regular printer paper. It's also a great way to use up small bits of fabric. I save strips that are only 1" wide and I've used them in a pattern.

It really doesn't take that long to do. I'd just save them up and when I had a pile, I'd sit down to listen to TV or some music, sit w/ a bowl on my lap and tear away. The paper goes in the bowl and before you know it you are done. A tweezers helps with those really narrow areas your fingernail can't pick it out from.

I love paper piecing and I'm working on one right now. I love the accuracy.

I use newsprint. I have both the kind from the newspaper on a roll and the kind that comes in a pad. The padded kind is more expensive, but I think it tears out more easily. The roll ends of the newspaper are so cheap that I don't mind the extra little bits of paper that sometimes remain.

To Use newsprint, you can make a copy of your pattern and staple up to 16 layers of the newsprint together. Then un-thread your sewing machine and stitch on every line. Add a 1/4" seam allowance if the pattern doesn't have it already there.

Remove the staples and number each piece and you're ready to start stitching!

Paper piecing is when you sew your quilt pieces right onto the paper as you make your blocks. Then you tear the paper off when done. YOu are sewing on the lines of the pattern so it's nice and accurate.

Go the the site below. It is another group, but they are PP'ers. At the top of the list are several threads with links to PP sites. There are several tutorials.
