I have started a number of projects..... a conversation about me walking to the gas station in the dark came up with the sarcasm of being kidnapped to a sweat shop to teach me to sew.... well it got to the point where I was told me someone would teach me how to sew. I retorted of course that i do know how.
You know what her next stament was? "Oh, well they'll teach you how to finish stuff. Can you tell me the number of how many things you've finished?" I had no way to answer this, considering i havent finished anything! But im going to this month, i have a doll quilt to do! ;) |
I'm on the down hill stretch of a 2 year old UFO. I'll be so happy to have it DONE. Getting them done is a great feeling:) Come on lets get 'em done!!
|
who's she... the UFO police? Are you happy and having fun with your projects? That's really all that matters!!!
People need to learn to keep their opinions to themselves - and we need to learn to tell them that their opinion is not appreciated. |
My guild recently had a UFO challenge with the idea of actually completing UFOs. I committed to identifying how many I had. Committing to actually finishing something was too long of a stretch! I identified 17 UFOs in my stash pretty quickly and had enough time to finish something by the challenge deadline; which I did. I was so happy that I started something else so still at 17!
|
Too many to mention
|
I hafta count-??? ;)
|
I am only doing a king size quilt at the moment.
|
way to many i actualy think i have loast a few cant find a top i have to take pics off better find it soon.
|
When we moved and I unpacked my sewing room I found three more that I need to finish so I'm up to 9 ufo's

Too many to even think about counting
|
I have really never counted mine but I know I have two of the largest Rubbermaid containers full of completed tops (most folded together with backs) ready to quilt. I also have another large tub of completed blocks and numerous shoe boxes with some completed blocks, the rest of the fabric and the pattern. I refuse to feel guilty about them and my goal since I recently retired is to finish one a month. Eventually I will empty those bins. Right now, I have 10 completed quilts that I have finished this year and #11 is ready for pinning.

Sorry for the double post.

I tried the no buy thing also but I keep buying from QB members. I need to stay away from those listings or I'll never get the number of ufo's down. I also have several aprons I've been working on since last Christmas.
|
UFO's drive me nuts can't have more than one going at a time, until they are Finished. I can't wait to finish one project so I can start a new one..but still work on it until it's finished. I may buy fabric for more than one
quilt, then chose which to work one first.. I even make up several quilt kits ,all cut out, that way when I'm finished with one I have the other ready to start sewing on.. |

How many UFOs? - Too many! And tonight I started another one. Well, I'm almost finished with two quilts and need a take along project for when I visit my parents, which I'll be doing this weekend. So maybe I'll get a pass on this one. :)
|
I have about 15, I think. At the beginning of this year I signed up for a UFO challenge, and it's inspired me to finish 4 or 5 projects. The only problem is that I started a further three.
|
I joined my guild two years ago. To date I have finished one top for a charity quilt because I said I would. I have two tops requiring borders. I have table topper ready to handquilt.
At this time I am honing my rotary cutter skills. My seam allowances have gotten better since I purchased the 1/4" foot for my 301. I am also working on lining up my seams. Then it will be time to master borders and finishing my projects. I jumped into quilting with both feet, the same way I do everything. Then reality hit and I knew it did not matter how many quilts the others completed, I had start at the beginning and learn one skill at a time. I am making progress. I have no UFO's, only WIP's. By the way, I am very good at buying fabric -- the most important skill was the first learned. My stash is coming along nicely. Quilting like everything else worth doing is a journey. |

I HAD 7 quilts that needed to be quilted, so I boxed them up and shipped them to my quilter(sister) not real happy to get 7 at once now I have them back and have to bind them. I have 2 done and five to go. As far as I can remember(which isn't far)that is all I have unfinished, I think.
|
to scary, to many cubbies hiding them, to many.....
ditto; and I don't want to:) (count them)

I'm not sure how many UFO's I have, I keep finding more hidden in by bins and closet. I have to just resign myself that I am not a quilter but a "topper" LOL

My son in law gave me a banner which reads "Queen of the Unfinished Projects".
|
Mine are all WIPs. Whoever suggested you learn to finish what you start should learn that it's not necessary to share her every thought. Since words cannot be taken back, the unkind thoughts are best left unsaid.

Yesterday i finished my grandmothers UFO from the late 1920's (will try to post photo w/SIL help) today i start quilting 2 of my WIP (one was cut out with sissors in the 1970's) that are pinned and ready. Then there are a couple of years of BOM's that need shashes and borders. I have completed several this year and hope to finish the remainder before the first of January 2012.
I have a pin to ward off the quilt police. |

Who hasn't gone through or is still in a collecting phase? When you don't have time to actually sew, there's always time at the grocery store to grab a new magazine, a "to die for" FQ as you dash through the store buying science fair stuff with the kids, or a new book from the half price book store which is right next to your favorite restaurant?
Next time someone asks how many things you've finished reply, "Quilting is an art. Just like Picasso went through a blue period, I am in my 'collecting' period.". :) |
I set myself a goal to finish my CT UFOs before I go to AZ for the winter. With 5 weeks left, I only have 2 to go - if I don't count the 4 AZ tops I brought with me! I think I'll take them back to AZ, so I'm not counting them as CT UFOs - LOL. I'm about to work on those 2 CT UFOs - blocks from the black/white exchange 2 years ago. I made enough for that exchange to wind up with 2 quilts, and I have them made 'in my head.' I even used my winning in the Bunny Hop that year to buy lime fabric as the sashing for one of the quilts, so I don't even have the excuse that I don't know how to 'finish' the quilts. I'm on a roll!
|
I have so many tucked away that I can't find them all!!

I had no way to answer this, considering i havent finished anything! But im going to this month, i have a doll quilt to do! ;) I work on many of them when the mood hits me. Sometimes I need a color that I don't have in my stash at the moment and have to set it aside until I can shop. Sometimes I get stumped as to what or how I should proceed. Letting some time pass can give you fresh eyes! I have forgotten about a project, open a box and am pleasantly surprised to continue working on it. Those who don't have interest in the needle arts don't always understand. Sometimes they also don't understand where their boundaries end. They really don't have rights to your decision making, although they seem to think they do! I do my best to ignore ridicule from the peanut gallery. Sometimes it is hard to do, and it always seems to be there. But the owner of the body gets to make the decisions concerning things that affect him, not the nuts in the peanut gallery! LOL LOL :D :D :D :D :D Kitty |
Okay, here's a theory. Some things are not meant to be finished. They are part of the creative learning process, much like preliminary sketches of a painting. Especially while you are learning and exploring different techniques, there are likely to be many projects that, once you've learned what you need to learn, you don't feel any particular need to finish. Consider giving away the ones that someone else might want to invest some time in and get rid of the rest. This may or may not apply to you but it does to some quilters and I hate to see people beat themselves up over UFO's that have actually done their job.
