these plastic containers???
Love recycling & - We drink a lot of generic Crystal Light - Walmart has chaged their containers to the ones below - they are approx 6 1/2" tall and 2 3/4" x 2" at the top -

cjomomma 06-26-2011 11:02 AM

I wonder if they are big enough to store crackers in.

BrendaK 06-26-2011 11:06 AM

Spare change? I am sure you will find a lot of things to do with them. The board will give you lots of ideas. BrendaK

I think you may be able to put some crackers in it. I think they would make a good container to hold crochet hooks or even a little "to go" notion holder for like some hand work put your thread and scissors and what nots in it that you would use and stuff it in your purse. They also would make a nice little first aid kit you just can't put too much in it, but you could put bandaids, tweezers, Sewing needle and thread, buttons. I will have to buy a container of those just for that lol.

butterflies5518 06-26-2011 11:09 AM

I use them for old needles and another for thimble collection.

moonwork42029 06-26-2011 11:13 AM

Leftovers will store easier in the frig and not take up so much room...can store them on the door. (If these are plastic)

Freeze them with water or juice to have "big blocks" that won't melt so fast when you put them in a pitcher.

Cover them with pretty fabric (elastic at top) and put potpourri in them.

Store tea bags...those flimsy boxes will be gone then

eastermarie 06-26-2011 11:14 AM

Pencils, fabric markers, stacks of 2x2, strips of 2 1/2 X 6 1/2, bobbins, those Sulky spools of the same color family, buttons, snaps, velcro, elastic,& glue stick holders.

They might be - the bottom is 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 - would depend on the cracker - but don't think you would get a lot of them in

Those are some good ideas - you can write on them with markers as well
Love the Ice Cube Idea

We drink the same brew. I have 4 of them that I just can't throw away. For the life of me I don't know what to do with them either. I know that as soon as I toss them, someone will come up with something that I will give myself a head slap for, saying "why didn't I think of that?". ;) I suppose I could make ice "logs".

mizunogirl 06-26-2011 01:52 PM

When you run out of uses, they do appear to be recyclable. In addition, you could see if some art teachers want them for projects.

If you were to cut them off they would be good for seedlings too!

Jennifer22206 06-26-2011 01:57 PM

maybe you could put pre-wound bobbins in them?

I don't know, I'd just recycle them.

lots2do 06-26-2011 02:16 PM

I would sort sharpened color pencils in them by color for my classroom. I love them. Hmmm, maybe it's time to pick up eight or so!

Barb44 06-26-2011 02:36 PM

Buttons, spools of thread sorted by color, safety pins, quilting pins, packets of hand sewing needles, a sewing kit for travel, packets of bias tape or rick rack, nails, screws, picture hanging hooks, rolls of elastic or velcro, crayons for the grandkids, misc craft pieces, various embellishments, matches for emergencies, piggy bank, small scrapbooking pieces, and anything small enough to fit.

Kooklabell 06-26-2011 03:16 PM

I use to keep an old purse in the backseat of my car. I put all kinds of things in it... old keys, hanky, and a container like this that I had put a penny or two in, or rice. Then I superglued the lid shut.

My grandsons had Nana's purse! And all the goodies inside to play with while she drove. I used a number of containers to make "rattles".

ka9sdn 06-27-2011 03:16 AM

We just used them to make "Bits and Pieces" for our quilt show. Put in small pieces of fabric, some had thread or buttons. Sold them for like $2 to $3. Sold them all and had fun and still cleaned up leftovers.

smagruder 06-27-2011 03:22 AM

straight pins, safety pins, small traveling snack boxes, buttons, small servings of nuts, candy, raisins, etc. There is always another use for containers.

tupoms 06-27-2011 03:33 AM

You can use one next to your sewing machine for thread catcher and another for tools, rulers, markers, etc.

Winnemay 06-27-2011 04:24 AM

I freeze single portion leftovers in these containers ... and berries for pancakes

GrandmK 06-27-2011 05:32 AM

I must have a zillion of them. We use a verity. Some of them are clear and my husband uses them in the garage to sort nuts, bolts and nails etc

charlotte625 06-27-2011 05:40 AM

since you can write on them they would be great for sorted buttons, strips of velco, pens markers, rubber bands.I keep tape, pen, paper, address labels in my truck, then if I go somewhere and they aren't home I leave a note.those would be a good size for that.

MarthaT 06-27-2011 06:22 AM

Storage for crochet hooks.

Wunder-Mar 06-27-2011 06:27 AM

I just bought myself a food/herb dehydrator two months ago and had collected these from my daughter, who kept about 2 dozen empties (although she didn't know why!).

I have been using these to store dried herbs from my garden, and dried fruit bits and specific dried herbs to make my own herbal teas. I plan to dry veggies this week in small batches and make up my own dry soup mixes.

I keep one for broken needles, bent pins and disposable sharps in the sewing room.

Zhillslady 06-27-2011 06:27 AM

I use them to store sugar at the office. Once we open a bag we have no canister at office and have to worry in FL about ants. 3 of them hold exactly 2 #'s of sugar.

Nan Quilts 06-27-2011 06:39 AM

My sister-in-law uses them to store her pins for pinning her quilt layers together. ;)

arimuse 06-27-2011 06:45 AM

I love love love anything plastic w/ a lid now that I moved to the south! You have to cover everything to keep it from going stale (limp) or keep out bugs.
I also use them for everything from freezing/storing people food/pet food to craft/sewing, inside/outside storage. A lot of larger lids are thick enough to make nice quilt templates from. kids can play w/them - like when we were young and played w/ empty boxes. They are teriffic for packing up a "surprise" picnic (if we travel I always pack a cooler w/ fresh finger foods all cut up: carrots, celery, grn peppers, crackers, cheese, pepperoni, bread cubes. These plastic containers are perfect.)
Another great container is beneful dog food containers - nice lunch size containers for taking anywhere.
not to metion using in a sewing rm! sort bobbins by color, sort pins, sort fabric samples anything smaller and not flat enough to go into a folder.
Also, in early winter I start saving all plastic containers cus by Jan 1 I am starting masses of seeds in my kitchen. Great seed starters sharet

sewbizgirl 06-27-2011 06:52 AM

They look perfect for storing double-pointed sock needles (knitting).

quilter64779 06-27-2011 07:04 AM

Great for holding knitting needles so they don't get lost.

bobbie1 06-27-2011 07:10 AM

Thanks for all the ideas. Like the idea for the tea bags. Also the ice "logs".

Sew and Sew 2 06-27-2011 07:12 AM

I marked one with a "skull and cross bones" and put old blades and sewing machine needles in it for disposal.

That's cute!!

salsalady 06-27-2011 07:38 AM

Junec, do you have a container of this now? want to buy some but was wondering if it had aspertame in it?( articial sugar). my husband can't have that kind of sugar. gets side effects from it. i am disable so cant get to store to check it out. thanls for advice. lorene

donnacollierbess 06-27-2011 07:52 AM

Think about cutting them in 1/2 - might give you more ideas. If nothing else, elementary school teachers NEED containers like this. Drop them off at an elementary school close by; the teachers will love you forever.

Kathy16 06-27-2011 08:19 AM

I collect these for the church for children's crafts.

I have been using these too! I am making myself a purse, and made little sleeves for these, then loops to attach into seam of purse. as a hanging pocket inside. I cut them to size to hold sunglasses, cell phone etc that I didn't want to get crushed in my purse, and to make them easy to find.

ndgirl 06-27-2011 09:18 AM

My husband farmed all his life. I used a similar container for each tractor and truck. In each I put a small note pad and pencil (for "random thoughts", parts numbers, notes regarding types of seed, fertilizer, etc. he was using, a small roll of antacid tablets such as Tums, a couple of foil packets containing Anacin, a roll of Lifesavers, a few band aids along with some wet wipes and alcohol wipes for small accidents, a few sticks of gum, etc. One year I prepared these for Fathers Day for my Drive Inn restaurant customers in small zip lock bags - got some puzzled looks and comments, but later that summer and even yet, we get comments about what a good idea that was!

kdid82 06-27-2011 10:42 AM

I've been throwing mine away, couldn't think of anything to use them for!!

Farm Quilter 06-27-2011 10:49 AM

Guess I'm going to have to start drinking this stuff!!! Great ideas...guess I'm addicted to plastic too, since I will buy something in a re-usable plastic container over the same thing in a box! Right now my 1.5" squares are living in a Belgian Mini Eclairs plastic box next to my sewing machine for enders/leaders

Pat G 06-27-2011 11:15 AM

I really love these containers & can't stand to toss them out. On the other hand, just how many can I keep. I'm a great container keeper.
