I learned to sew in Home Economics class.
Remember the horrible wraparound skirt for the final grade.

My Mom had a treadle machine in her attic (it was there when her & Dad bought the house)she loaned me so I could make my three little ones pajamas with the feet in them.
That was the start of my love for sewing and old machines.
Not until recently (in the last three years) have I gotten back into sewing with a treadle. My first one was a Singer 66 I bought at Goodwill for $30.00. I now have four treadle machines.

I learned to sew on my mom's treadle.
At present, I have a singer 66, singer 99k with motor, a 15-91 with motor, and a 503 singer. That is all my antiques.

Actually my first sewing machine (1967) was a Singer treadle. I was walking past a pawn shop with my grandmother in Phenix City, Alabama; knew that we couldn't afford to buy a new machine; saw it and asked if we could buy it. She went in, paid $10 dollars for it and the owner, who lived about 10 doors down from us, delivered it that same day. I have been 'sewing on singers' ever since. I still love Singers.

I learned on my gramdmother's New Home Treadle machine at 8 years old. Was given a featherweight by an aunt when I was 17. Husband baught me a Singer slant when I ws 25, trading in the featherweight. At 35, my husband baught me a Viking 3560 that I use to this day. Gave my Singer slant to my son when he had children. I picked up a New Home treadle when I was 45 from a lady I helped her move to an apartment. Now if I can find a Featherweight, I will have come full circle!!

I learned to sew on a treadle when I was about 6 yrs. old. I made a lot of doll clothes and was always raiding my moms scraps. When I was a little older, I think 12, I started making my own skirts for school. Belonged to 4-H then and we would put on modeling shows for the older ladies. I have always enjoyed sewing and made dresses for my girls when they were little. It has been only the last couple years that I have been quilting. I am mostly self taught so still have plenty to learn. If I close my eyes and think about it, I can still feel the rythmn of the old treadle.

I learned to make Barbie Doll clothes on a treadle when I was 8 yrs old.
