I started to sew in 8th grade. We only had a Singer Treadle at home. When I sewed at home that was
what I used. Mom traded it in for a $99 new Singer for
me a couple of years later. Gee, I wish I still had the treadle.

I learned on my great grandmother's Franklin treadle. I still have it and am considering making a quilt on it. I was in the fourth grade and lived in Schuyler, Nebraska. I will never forget how much I loved sewing on it.

I remember having a treadle machine in our home when I was growing up. My first sewing experience was sewing hems in cloth diapers when I seven years old, but I can't remember if that was on a treadle (you would think so at that age!) or one of our early electric ones.

My grandmother had a Singer treadle and she taught me how to sew. I used to love to watch her sew, she said that someday I would be able to sew just like her...and I did. I really miss her.

Learned to sew on a treadle machine. When my grandmother's legs got tired I used to sit at the back of the machine and used my hands so she could finish her project. Made my clothes on this machine until I was 16.

My DH told me that he and his brother used to do the same thing for their mom. I have a feeling that was her way of keeping them nearby and out of trouble.

Dad bought Mom a Treadle, don't know why bc she couldn't sew. I was about 8. I taught myself how to sew on it. It was the first sewing machine I'd ever seen. I could not figure out how to get the bobbin thread up from the bottom. After hours I managed to get it to the top I tied a knot in it so it would not go down that rabbit hole again.

I did not learn on a treadle but now I have two. One is a Pfaff and one is a Singer. I plan to make a quilt on one of them in the future. Should be interesting.
