A little of both. Started my first in the late 60's, it is still in a box as a UFO. Then took a long time till the 80's and took my first basic quilting class and was wowed! I never had time for classes since we owned our on business and raising 5 children. Always made clothes and did crafts. Watched alot of Quilting shows on TV!! Oh my really enjoyed them for tips and tricks. Retired in 2006 and have now enjoyed classes, quilting group at church and playing with my stash. Still not really good, but having fun.

I am self taught. And I'm still learning. I started learning to quilt last winter...around Jan. or Feb. I decided that I would find out whatever I could on-line or quilting books, and thank goodness I found this board. What a help the board has been. Any questions that I have asked have been answered fast. I would love to get to where I could look at something and go home & make it. But, as of right now I do mostly patterns or just squares of different sizes.

I'm self-taught except for one class. I think I learn better from books and video rather than a class, but I'm glad I took the class to get me started.

with the help of all of you and quilting sites ,self taught

Self taught. At least in the little I know. I am trying to find some place that will teach piecing because I think that is where all the skill is. I have appliqued some and did some very basic quilting, but I want to learn more, more, more.

A friend and I just starting quilting without much knowledge as to how it was done. We have taken several classes since and I also learned so much from watching Simply Quilts, Quilt in a Day and similar shows. I video taped the shows that especially interested me and I can go back and watch them if I have a question.
