My grandmother started to teach me ages ago, but I'm mainly self taught through books and the internet. I took only one class, the instructor said something about "that was a stupid question" and I never went back. I told her to have a great career and left. Then I turned to the internet and found better answers. :)

Self taught....lots of reading books and magazines. I would, however, like to take a class in paper piecing because I just can't get the hang of it.

I'm also self taught(never taken a class yet). I watch tv, read books, and get awesome info from this board!

Just beginning but I guess I too will be self taught. I've always admired anyone who could quilt and did watch some quilting shows on TV back years ago. I know a lot of people who quilt but not well enough to ask them for help. I live in an area with many Amish families all around, their quilting talents make my jaw drop!!
I'm learning from all of you, you've become my teachers and very good ones, I may add! I took Home E/C all through junior and senior high school. I've always been into crafts...sewing, knitting, rubber stamping, jewlery making, you name it. However, since finding this board I have given up those things and am just concentrating on learning to quilt. It's become my favorite thing to do. |
Self taught. Was thrown into quilting by a friend (to help her).I ended up finishing the raffle quilt and was hooked. I have taken a few classes, but mostly for the social part to meet other quilters.

I've never taken classes. However I was sewing clothes in jr high. As for quilting, I'm very much a beginner.

Same as you! I'm self taught and try to think "outside the box" Sometimes it works, other times, not so much! But I"m learning along the way.

I am mostly self taught. Georgia Bonesteel is who first peaked my interest in quilting. The only class I have ever taken was an applique' class I took because I had a lot of stars to do & wanted to know how to do good points. Guess what, the first thing she said is she did not do sharp points. I still learned some good things. Like to use a small-short needle to do needle turn applique', which I really enjoy. So it wasn't a totaly waste and my stars turned out pretty good anyway. LOL
