Zero $$. I maintain them myself. Course - they are vintage electrics with no computer control boards to worry about.

You definitely overpaid. I haven't had mine serviced in a while due to lack of funds on my part, but I would have demanded a full accounting on what exactly you paid for or what had to be done that made the bill so extremly, unrealistically high. But, I would not go back there ever again, either.

I have two new Bernina's that were just in for the first year check, paid nothing. My older Bernina that I took in cost me $75.00 but it had no problems, just got a good going over and cleaned and oiled it. Oh my 830 BSR was not working, was a part inside of the machine that got broke, was replaced for nothing and it was over a year old. I have a GREAT dealer.

My Elna cost $90 last week for cleaning. Outrageous! I can't oil it myself - it must be serviced!

$75 plus tax for my mechanical machines. I'm in Indy

I pay about $80.00-regardless of the type of machine-well worth it to me!

I don't usually take any of mine in unless I can't fix it. My Viking #1 broke (something with the presser thingy) and I took it apart and found the little piece that broke off inside and repaired it, didn't think I could...BUT I don't give up very easy and I finally got it. It was in a hard spot to reach. I figured I saved myself a couple hundred dollars. I also took apart my "new" FW and cleaned and oiled and greased her. I had my Viking serviced once and they charged me almost $200 to re-align the needle area and they never even fixed it , something else happened to it and I had it back there 3 times before they got it right.I try to keep my machines clean all the time.

My Bernina was $79 and my Janome 1600 was $69. That seems like a lot but we wouldn't not change the oil on our cars and we have to do that about 4 or 5 times a year.

Ruby the Quilter 10-10-2011 06:47 PM

It's about $80 unless sometime needs replaced or repaired and that's rare with a Janome.
