Ask first before having work done- get it in writing. Write on the ticket anything over that amount they must call first. Ask around who is good and who is not. We have several in our area we recommend and one we warn everyone not to go to. We thought ours was a uniquely bad experience with that shop but it turns out there are many who failed to even tell anyone else so this shop continued to rip people off. We made sure to report them to the beter business and to the local retailers board.

I pay 65.00 for my Bernina.
|
One store here charges $40 and another $75. They charge $85 for a computer machine. They said they clean the sticky stuff off the disks, and I assume they mean the tension disks. The machine gets so it won't allow me to adjust the tension and starts pulling the bobbin thread when it needs a cleaning. I like the $75 store the best, but both my machines are computerized and that means $85. That seems to be a racket to me. Until I learn to properly clean it, I'm stuck. Nothing beats a clean machine though.

Viking Sapphire service was $112.

My new Janome was $79 . . . PLUS they broke the needle and charged 80 cents for that. <GGG>

My Sapphire runs $89.

I usually take care of my machine myself. I always oil it and blow out the dust. When I bought my Bernina that was all they said to do. Never had a problem with my machine and sewed many quilts on it.

WOW! Sounds like a rip-off to me.
I have a Janome Memory Craft 6600, just had it in for a yearly check-up and paid $53.95. Maybe your location is the problem. Everything in Ca is nearly double or triple for what I pay here. |
Sadly, I really think you got ripped off. I have three Janomes and the one I use all the time (Janome 6260) I've been taking in every year for about 6 years. The cost has always been $70.00, occasionally a small part is replaced - no additional charge. The other two I take in every couple of years - always same price.
Missouri Sewing Machine Company, been in business here since the late 1930s. Always very helpful, whether I buy from them or not. |
