Quilt guilds each highlight different parts of quilting.. Guilds are really specialised now days . My church guild is wonderful and gives 50 some quilts away each year. Twelve ladies do miracles and it is free . My professional guild charges $25. This group has authors, designers, and accomplished professional ladies it is a very creative group. Lots of retreats and pro speakers.My newest group is a country guild. Mostly farmers , housewives , teachers, retired ladies and the most fun group. I really enjoy this group most the dues $12. Each group is special in its own way. I have a problem with one group having a bank account of $20,000. Our bills run about $2,000. I believe it is a temptation to someone not honest to have this much in reserve.

Since guilds are usually non-profit, I don't understand why some have such high dues, especially the big guilds, unless they have to pay a lot for the meeting venue. |
The guild fees I have no problem with...what I had a problem with is that they want you to sign up to volunteer for this and that....working full time I do not want to be volunteering for stuff...I would rther pay more for dues.

$30 per year. I feel that we get a good deal for what we pay. We get good speakers and classes.

our guild dues are $30--but we get 12 of the opportunity quilt raffle tickets and we get to keep the $10 from the sale of those so really just $20. The purpose behind that is to get everyone to sell at least $10 worth of tickets. Our dues and tickets support monthly program (some by members, some by regional or national speakers); backing/batting for charity quilts, our yearly quilt show, several door prizes at meetings, birthday fat quarters, twice yearly potlucks, almost monthly "sewing events" or classes. Some of our classes are taught by members (some of those who are certified teachers) some by outside teachers. Plus we have about 18hours of beginners classes that can be taken repeatedly and also an intermediate level class too. I think it's a great "deal", have lots of fun. We hae 2 meetings--evening and daytime/month. And as far as a small group "running things" as some of you mentioned, with 160 members not everyone is real active, but there is opportunity for anyone interested to get involved.

Ours is $25. Part of that goes to having the chairs set up at our meeting site. There was quite a brouhaha over a $5 hike in dues to cover this. But what it did, besides having our chairs set up , is stop all the begging for help before the meeting and the guilt trips abou who always does it. $5 well spent, as far as I'm concerned!

Funny - sort of - how people can moan and groan about an increase from $20 to $25 per year - and will spend more than that much going out for one dinner.

Not many guilds are incorporated. No state or federal tax to deal with. It's just a budget for the group no matter how much is in the bank account. You'd be surprised how many leave a good amount to their guild in their will. That is how many guilds get a big bank balance. My guild has received several thousands over the last few years from deceased members.
