I just spent 175.00 on sale fabric on Thursday. It was a great buy and I bought what I thought I might use later in a quilt. I buy what I can afford when I see it on sale. It seems to be going up in price each time I go to the store. I was told this morning by a friend that we can expect a substantial jump in the price of food starting next week....

four yards of one fabric or two yard of conrasting fabric. That usually enough for a twin or 72"x72" recliner throw.

I buy fabric just because I like it, 1-2 yards at a time. I asked a friend if she just buys something because she likes it she said never, only what she needs for a project.

I've pretty much stopped buying just one fabric at a time unless it's a tone on tone or solid that I know I'll use. I tend to find a fabric set (usually on sale) and then find a pattern to go with it. I'll buy the entire fabric needed for that specific project, even though I may not get to it for a year or so. At least I have it all when I do start. I usually ma Queen/King size quilts, so 3 1/2 yards for the outer border is necessary. I'll get 3/4 yard for smaller borders, and about 1/2 yard for binding. The fabric needed for the inner part of the quilt depends on the pattern.

How many will pay full price for fabric you just love- say $10-13/yd and use it for backing? Not 108" wide.

It if ever buy fabric at full price it has to be for a specific project. I usually shop the discounted fabric section. Most of the LQS that I shop at have a minimum of 1 yd on the discounted fabric. If they have several bolts from the same line of fabric I buy 1 yard of each. I wait until they are 50% - 60%. If there is a small amout left on the bolt I'll usually go ahead and buy it all. I only buy FQ when I find them for $1 each or no more than $1.50. I do them the same way. If there is several from one line of fabric I'll buy one of each. I'm needing to start buying solids when I find then on sale. I'm finding I having more projects that I'm wanting to make that needs solids. If it is one I think I can use for several projects I buy what is left on the bolt. Some shops give you a discount if you buy the end of the bolt or will have a day ever so often that if you buy end of bolt there is a discount.

one to two yards is it for me. I will buy more if a project calls for it and tend to buy specifically for projects, though the occasional "it's so cute/pretty/perfect for... I HAVE to have it" pops into my cart. Overall, in the last two years, I have averaged less than 10 yards a year.

How do you buy wholesale? Do you have a business or tax number?

How many yards are in a blot of fabric?

OMG, i am horrible, buy, buy buy, i love reds so i buy at the very least 4yds, i have been known to buy the bolt on a lot of differant fabrics. Back in my youth i would buy muslin when it was .50 cents, so you can imagine how much i have just of muslin. Its fun though.
