I just love pretty fabric and no matter how much I have, if I see another that strikes my fancy I will buy it. I need at least another hundred years to work up all I have.
I have about what you have and with the current fabric market they it is , I am glad. There is some High-end names printing fabric that I would not buy...much like the walmart/joanns/hancocks fabrics...THIN...I am glad I have the stash I have along with the 30 queen size "kits" I have already put together!
For those of you who like to buy kits, where do you get them? I love kits and have several from keepsake quilting and connecting threads. Any other wonderful sources for kits I am missing?

Too much stuff makes me paralysed. Can't deal with it. Just go out and get what I want and ignore what I already have. Guess that's what makes an enormous stash.

I have a small cabinet and a couple of totes with fabric in it. Sounds like you will have lots to choose from when you have time to sew.
Nana Jan - love your avatar. I have a bunch of fabric too & recently pulled all I could out of stash of cotton fabric for fire victim quilts and then put stuff right back in those shelves so you can't really tell where I pulled it from (LOL). I don't have or didn't have nearly as much as some have but I recently bought a little over 110 yards for backing for quilts for fire victims. I only paid $2 at a LQS for fabric the lady who bought this store was clearing out for new material & what a blessing it was to us! I don't have kits (nor have I purchased kits) but do have material set aside for 3 personal quilts I have commited to, plus my Christmas fabric that I gather at the end of each year so I have my choice of fabric to make Christmas stockings.... It's wonderful to hear that we all "enjoy" our fabric.

Better get busy sewing..........LOL
No way! I love fabric, but the thought of cutting up 3000 yards of fabrics gives me the hives. I have just started cutting up the fabric for my first quilt in 30 years. I now know why 5"charm kits are so "charming."
I have been collecting fabric for years. I did get rid of everything in 1980 when we moved to Hawaii. But when we came back I started over. I have never counted how many yards I have, that would be scary. And it is not all quilting fabric. I have a bit of everything.
I have told my daughters that when I die or they put me in a home, to sell it all and then take everyone on a Disney cruise. One of my son in laws think I am crazy and that the money should go towards a college fund for the grands, but that is just not how I am. I think the money should go towards having fun and celebrating what I love. |
it really does not take much to find out you have more fabric than you think you do, I have modest fabric collection and must have at least 1000 yards, more than enough for several quilts!
I have been a "lurker" for about 2 yrs enjoying this forum.
I had a house fire last May and while inventoring everything in the house, I measured 686 yards of cotton!! and 883 spools of various threads. I also lost 4 sewing machines, one of which was a longarm cry: I'm in my house now without even scraps for potholders. I'm going shopping soon   |
Neither my mind nor my budget could ever accommodate a stash like that, much less a purchase. You are so blessed to be able to acquire that, so use it well and make people happy :)

I'm starting to feel like a real collector myself....I just came home with 14 yds of fabric for various projects. Hope they get done.........LOL
That's a lot of fabric. Not sure how much I have and I'm not really sure I want to know. LOL. I think I'll just say I have a lot.
i feel better now :)))))

I thought my 5 tubs was too much...after reading this post I realize mine is not bad at all. I could see a professional quilter having that much. But buying so much in such a short time is excessive. It takes all the fun out of what to buy in the future. Sometimes a buying addiction is just masking another problem.
We all have our addictions, must be inherited, I love my fabrics too - My dad would "pet" the dash board of his little Ford Courier truck and smile the biggest smile
I have about 2500 yards of fabric or more. I don't have any room to make it any bigger then that. When I sew a quilt I will replace the fabric that I used. When I inherited my Mom's stash after she passed away it took me a year and a half to sell and donate the fabric. I washed all the fabric and it took me 5 months to wash all of it. My sister is giving me her fabric as she quit quilting and she is bringing it to me this summer. My husband is thinking of building me a storage shed or just move to a 3 bedroom duplex so I have my own sewing room.
Well after reading how much some of you have, I do not feel so guilty anymore about having more than I will ever live long enuf to use.
I do have 12 small quilts ready to go to the church. But that hardly put a dent in my stach. :) |
lol......whats left to say.......sew sew sew.......
that sounds like a playground for grownups i have alot of fabric my daughter works for Joanns and i get her discount i love the way fabric looks and when my days are dark i play with bright sunny colors and life is good again but 3000 yards sounds like time to open a shop... or its like a fabric 401k'''retirement fund have fun and enjoy
I have a good stash but not close to what you have--good for you. I tend to always purchase reds, blacks, blues & creams. Can't decide whether it's best to buy kits but at least when you're ready to start a project everything is there.
I have a pretty good stash but nowhere near that much. You are very lucky to be able to buy fabric like that. By the way, I love your avatar. Could you tell us the name of that pattern?
I'm going to keep your message, so when my husband asks me what I plan to do with my fabric, I can show him your note about your stash and he won't ask me again! I thought I was bad having 2 kits untouched - 80???? Wow, lucky girl!!
How do you choose what to do next? |
You've got enough to open your own quilt shop. Can I come visit???
I am 72yrs old and if I lived to be 172yrs still would never use up my fabric.
you guys are nuts.....I have a small stash, but most of my fabric now has a name and a home.
I always think of a beautiful quilt that I would make for my kids and grandchildren when I look at fabrics. Now that I am retired, I thought I have all the time to sew and do whatever. That's wishful thinking because I also love to travel and visit my kids California and Denver. I have fabrics stacked up. Each kit are quilts to be made for a special grandkid. I think something is really wrong with me. My husband said that I needed fabric intervention. There's something about fabrics that I have to have it. You're not alone and to me it is perfectly "NORMAL"
Golly .I have a very small amount but would love lots more .What stops me is lack of cash . I share a house with my daughter and disabled SIL so there isnt much money to spare . but at least we are happy together, things could be SOOOOOOOO much worse. At present I am using sraps for the local childrens hospice and that in it self is giving me great pleasure. So enjoy your stash and good luck to find more !!!!!!!!!!

I know it is a bad thing to be jealous, but I am jealous in a good way thinking of all of the lovely foster kid quilts I could make for less fortunate kids if I had a fraction of some of your stashes.
I notice that your location is western Ohio. I'm in Indiana and I go to Columbus on a regular basis as my best friend lives there. I'd be HAPPY to shop in your store any time you say!!!
