I was wondering how much time per day do you spend on quilting? I work fulltime but get off early afternoon so I've got time every afternoon but sometime I fee quilty always up in my sewing room. Just curious.

frugalfabrics 03-19-2011 09:14 AM

Not nearly enough...I might get to sew a little on the weekend, but usually not during the week.

Stitchnripper 03-19-2011 09:18 AM

I quilt in fits and starts. Sometimes I am very motivated and sometimes I'm not. I always have a project "going" though.

lovingmama 03-19-2011 09:22 AM

Maybe a little time during the weekend.

kathy 03-19-2011 09:26 AM

i too work full time and get off at 2 pm, have coffee and visit with hubby for an hour the he gets rebusy outside and i go inside, start laundry or supper and sew. go back and forth till he comes in at dark, ahve supper, visit for about 10 more minutes then go sew till bedtime, (9pm) try to have a hand project to work on in bed till about 10pm, we get up at 5 am, have coffe and visit till 6 am, he goes outside and go to my sewing room till 7, then cook breakfast, eat/visit we both go to work and start over !

pheasantduster 03-19-2011 09:27 AM

I have always had my sewing machine available to use anytime but since I have renewed my hobby of quilting I seem to do something related to quilting every day - cutting, piecing, sewing or actual hand quilting. Not to forget my logging in on Quilt Paradise!!!!!! Last Wed was cold and rainy so I spent all day doing the March 15 Star BOM - not guilty at all - a very happy senior!

loves_2_quilt 03-19-2011 09:32 AM

It depends on my work schedule and when I need to keep the grandsons for daughter’s night class. Sometimes all day, sometimes nothing for a week.

I do an hour or so on my days off, more on the shared day with my husband, he can watch baby, otherwise i have to wait for her to take a nap to sew, she is too busy body, doesn't sit still

Scrap Happy 03-19-2011 09:40 AM

On weekends I spend more time. I try to spend time at night during the week even if it is only for 30 minutes or less.

CarrieAnne 03-19-2011 09:44 AM

Not enough!

cjr 03-19-2011 09:45 AM

I'm retired. 6-8 hours /day about 5 days /week. Would be more except I spend to much time here.

Me too but ....I spend 2 or 3 hours reading on this board then quilt one or two hours.

DeneK 03-19-2011 10:23 AM

Since I retired, I usually go out to my quilt room around 8-9 AM until noon. And almost every day. Ain't it grand to be retired? You bet!

rdorminy 03-19-2011 10:33 AM

I agree with those that said "Not enough". My quilting room is in my basement and I'm down there almost every day. Some days from right after breakfast, a break for lunch and before I know it it's dinner time. I would probably be down there in the evening but I feel I need to be around the pup doggie and the hubby a little bit. I have so many projects going that I work a little on each and that way I don't get bored. Works for me!

SAME HERE!!!
(But a lot of that available time is spent HERE!!!!

CloverPatch 03-19-2011 10:35 AM

When I am in the mood I will sit and sew for hours. Then I might not touch my sewing area for a few days.

As someone else said, "Not nearly enough". I'm here on the board more than I should be! lol

Depends on whether I'm working on a project with a time frame. Also depends on what else is going on in my life. I tend to go in spurts. I like to get in the habit of sewing at least 5-10-15 minutes each day.

Kat Sews 03-19-2011 11:12 AM

less than I would like, but my life gets in the way

bakermom 03-19-2011 11:23 AM

I try to sew a little each day. sometimes all I do is sort thru fabric for a new project.
I too work full time and have a family. This is my time for me and I make time for me.

Tweety2911 03-19-2011 11:36 AM

Whenever the urge strikes:-)
Always have something in the works and work on it when so inspired. If I force myself to stick to a schedule and not in the mood I make too many mistakes:-)

Sounds like we are twins:):)

Rose L 03-19-2011 12:53 PM

All day, everyday, pretty much. I clean once a week and do laundry. Single, retired, and last child graduates in May.

-k 03-19-2011 12:54 PM

I feel guilty about not sewing enough!

debp33 03-19-2011 12:55 PM

I'm off work right now, so at least 2-3 hours a day.

When I was working full time it was more like 2-3 hours every week.

hobbykat1955 03-19-2011 01:12 PM

Retired also...In the cold weather it's up into the sewing rm at 9am...1/2 hr break for lunch, work until 4pm and then I need to see Judge Judy...that's Mon-Fri...I try and take wkends off.
During the summer 9-12 and then it's out on the deck for talk radio, sun and fun...

Yes, retirement is grand! Do what you want, when you want and how you want.

Iamquilter 03-19-2011 04:06 PM

I'm either sewing or quilting about 7 hrs aday.

Airwick156 03-19-2011 04:24 PM

I try to sew some every day. But lately it seems that Life has gotten involved and is preventing me from sewing. But, come Tuesdays I sew for 5 hours straight when I go to my sewing group. My sewing machine is still sitting in front of my couch where my hubby set it when I came home from sewing on Tuesday and its just waiting for me to sew something on it. Sometimes I think I hear it crying to me and yelling at me saying "Your a bad mommy just leaving me sit over here all by my lonesome with not even a spool of thread on me to keep me company or for me to play with."
I probably should at least pick it up and give it a little hug as it has been very good to me. But there are days that I will sew from the time I wake up till the time I go to bed and even then, sometimes I will wake up in the night to sew.

This sounds like me

justwannaquilt 03-19-2011 06:33 PM

I use to get a lot more done when my husband worked 4-midnight. I would put the kids to bed and then sit and sew until he got home from work just about every night. Now that he works 8am-4pm I don't have that alone time in the evening/night to get stuff done! However I don't mind giving up the sewing/alone time to have him home with the kids and I in the evening.

olebat 03-20-2011 02:24 AM

Math is not my strong point, I can't even average how much time I spend sewing. A lot depends of the erratic schedule of everyone living in the house. Our exchange daughter resides in the room adjacent to my primary sewing room. She is a university senior, majoring in International Relations, Phi Kappa Phi, studies hard. I want to respect her need to concentrate, so avoid sewing in times when she is sleeping or studying. Hubby works swing shifts, and that puts the machines in the vintage room out of service, as they are next to our bedroom. Unless I have a project on the long arm, which is in my office on the lower level of the house, my early mornings and late nights are here on the computer. I write, design, or read about quilting. By the time they get up, I'm on the sofa for my morning nap. LOL When I'm home alone, it's sewing non stop. Then, I have MY life too. Retirement was something I left behind with my Army career over 25 years ago. Now, as the 4-H lady, I'm always on the go. I enjoy working with the kids, teaching them to cook, sew, craft, enjoy the out-of-doors, and how to prepare for their future independent lives as functional citizens. Sew when I can squeeze it in.

MerryQuilter 03-20-2011 03:42 AM

Also work full time but, do take some time most days if not to quilt to visit my fabric.

Vat 03-20-2011 04:19 AM

I sew/quilt everyday, I too am retired, it's wonderful. But we really stay busy, with both mothers in assisted living we spend lots of time back and forth checking on our mothers and to doctors' appointments etc. etc. I don't how we had time to work. Just better planning I guess. We have been married for almost 42 years and no, I don't feel guilty. I do plan hand work for most evening when we watch TV. But he watches lots of TV, if I visited with him while he is watching TV I'd NEVER get ANYTHING/SEWING done. HA HA

michelehuston 03-20-2011 04:22 AM

I try to do something every day, even if only for 15 minutes. Am on break between quarters so make sure I do several hours a day!!(lost my job, so decided I needed something new, so went to college and surprisingly, a lot of ppeople my age are doing the same thing!! :))

ontheriver 03-20-2011 04:49 AM

I am also retired, DH passed away several years ago, it is just me and 11 yr. GS who is in school all day, so I can be in my sewing room all day every day if I choose.

charley1 03-20-2011 05:24 AM

I have a couple of things going right now but nothing finished

Linda1 03-20-2011 05:39 AM

I could quilt all day if I want to since I am retired. Usually it is 2 to 3 hours a day. I stay on this computer way too much.

I don't have any set time frame, usually when I don't have anything planned or between laundry or something. Hard to say but, I do try to do a little each day

#1piecemaker 03-20-2011 05:55 AM

Here lately, I've been getting nothing done. The seasons are changing. I've been cooped up. Gotta spend a little time outside.
