How much are you willing to pay for a pattern?

What do you expect to get for your money?

I seldom buy patterns. There are lots of free patterns online.
If I see a photo, I can usually figure out how to do the pattern.
Sometimes, I just can't see how the design is created. In that case, if I really want to see how it goes, then I will purchase the pattern. It also depends on the cost, as I am on a tight budget.

I don't believe I have ever bought a pattern. I have bought those plastic templates, I guess those are pattern like. I get a lot of use from the templates though and I have some kits that I have paid like $30 for

I have download free patterns. And like tapper, I study a design and try to figure it out... I have others who help me with that oo

If it is in booklet form, about $15 -$20. The booklet should have at least four pages not counting the covers. A printed folded easy pattern, about $9 - $12 With the internet as being the norm now, I expect an online video or blog with lots of pictures to go with the pattern, like MSQC, Cozy Quilts, Quilt in a Day, Jaybird Quilts, Fat Quarter Shop, Bonnie Hunter, Fons and Porter, etc. I see the video or read the blog and I buy the pattern.

Here in Canada it seems that our pattern prices are increasing...could be the exchange rate but wow some of the patterns are starting at $15 and up....hum not to happy...I know the work involved in designing a pattern as I have done it for myself but never sold them...but really $15 and up.... and one more thing....I know it's still the same amount of work....but why isn't there a better deal on pdf patterns...

It is for the seller. LOL

But I imagine it takes a large capacity server to handle the pdfs. Those services aren't cheap.

I have paid up to $20 for a detailed printed pattern I really liked. Most of the ones I buy are $8-10. I really prefer to buy books that have several patterns I like in them.

I hardly buy patterns anymore. There are too many free patterns online. I can't see paying $4 to $9 for a pattern that is so easy for me to figure out. I was shocked when I saw someone peddling a quilt pattern with a different name but looked just like Warm Wishes!

I might suggest you try selling a pattern PDF on Craftsy.

I usually buy a pattern that I know I can figure it out on my own but I want to know the method or technique the designer has used to make it easier and less frustrating. That is worth the price of the pattern or book.

I am not a pattern designer and I do like free patterns BUT when a designer is selling a pattern that I want, I will purchase it. I prefer to recognize and reimburse talented designers.

If the pattern is a re-marketed pattern then I will use the original pattern.
