How shall I arrange these?

I have been hit with indecision. I made all these blocks for an X's and O's quilt but now I can't decide which way I like best to arrange them. I am in need of oppinions to help me decide. Thanks!

First I have matchy X's and O's

Next I have random X's and O's

Then there's the matchy all X's (which also maks O's)

and last but not least random all X's (with O's ofcourse also)

I put these all together at once so I could see them all next to each other and there are not the exact same # of squares of each fabric so the last pic or 2 are not exactly how they would be in the quilt, but I think it gives a good idea anyway.

I'm kinda leaning toward either matchy X's and O's or random all X's, but I really would like some other oppinions.

Actually... maybe arrange from bottom up... putting a few darker ones towards "bottom".. like the dark X's and O's...as it gets "higher" get lighter..and more Loose ..no complete X's or O's on "top".....like they blew up there.... just a thought.. :)

Tartan 04-19-2013 11:25 AM

I like the first picture best but they are all pretty. The first picture kind of moves my eyes around the top in an interesting way to me.

charsuewilson 04-19-2013 11:30 AM

I like the first one best. But be sure that the darker colored gray blocks are evenly interspersed throughout the quilt.

nygal 04-19-2013 11:37 AM

I vote for the last picture.

trennag 04-19-2013 11:43 AM

I love them all but my fav is the first picture :)

mom-6 04-19-2013 11:45 AM

I like what I call "planned random" for a project like this. So what I do is place the darkest and lightest first then just fill in with the medium ones. Works out great most times. May require a bit of tweaking sometimes if i discover something doesn't look quite right but that is minimal.

I feel like I'm at the eye doctor's office ... which is better #1 or #3. I like both!

QuiltnNan 04-19-2013 12:21 PM

i like the first one the best

nativetexan 04-19-2013 12:38 PM

I too like the first one. the bottom two both can look like X's. I was thinking maybe of on point?

Patty Patches 04-19-2013 12:38 PM

I like them all,but the first one the best.

Mariposa 04-19-2013 12:40 PM

*I like the first one best~

Pinkiris 04-19-2013 12:42 PM

First of all, I have to compliment you on your color (and tone) choices for these blocks. They are really soft and beautiful!

With that said, I like picture #1 best--it really says x's and o's to me.

0tis 04-19-2013 12:47 PM

I like the first one best - very pretty fabric - looks like Moda Jubilee collection.

katiebear1 04-19-2013 01:05 PM

The first one is the best IMHO the second one gives me a headache LOL The last two are also pretty

jclinganrey 04-19-2013 01:07 PM

I vote for the first one too. Keep us posted!

Have you considered doing a thin sashing between to break up some of similar tones you are concerned about?

alikat110 04-19-2013 01:22 PM

Love the first one.

mooshie 04-19-2013 02:08 PM

Thank you for the help ladies! :) I was totally planning on the 1st one until I started laying things out and trying other things and then I didn't know what to do. I'll stick with the origonal plan. I can start working on the official final layout now.

aronel 04-19-2013 02:28 PM

My preference is the last one, it just seems to flow better.

Marilynsue 04-19-2013 02:38 PM

I vote for the first layout...the O's show up better in that one. Love your colors, especially the light pink. I just purchased a layer cake of batiks with the intention of doing that quilt. The colors are gorgeous and I'm thinking that your light pink might look good on this one. Thank you for showing it.

bigsister63 04-19-2013 02:53 PM

IMHO the gray is too dark and overpowers the other paler blocks. Maybe adding shashing/ med gray would allow the other pale blocks to standout more.

Luv Quilts and Cats 04-19-2013 03:29 PM

I like the all matchy x's, 2nd pic up from the bottom.

I agree. The X's and O's really stand out.

nvb50 04-19-2013 04:05 PM

I like the first one.

Nammie to 7 04-19-2013 06:21 PM

I like the first one - you can really see the pattern - in the next picture only certain pieces stand out and you lose your design.

verushcke 04-20-2013 02:46 AM

Personally I favour the random style, colours look very delicate and pretty, nice work, Darlene

nananurse 04-20-2013 03:07 AM

I like the first one best too...

Sew Freak 04-20-2013 03:48 AM

can't pin it down to 'one' but one and two are my picks....and luv the colors!!!

Reba'squilts 04-20-2013 04:03 AM

I like the random one....but all are nice. Like the colors.

KarenR 04-20-2013 04:06 AM

I like the first picture!

paprpcr 04-20-2013 04:18 AM

Random arrangement gives neither x's nor o's that are discernable as such. I kind of like random all x's.

cpcarolyn 04-20-2013 06:12 AM

I vote for the first one.

paoberle 04-20-2013 06:15 AM

I like the second one. The dark fabric is too dominant I the others for my taste.

bailey 04-20-2013 06:31 AM

I like the first one the best - and love your fabric choices. Beautiful soft colors.

liese 04-20-2013 06:39 AM

I would keep them matched like in the first pic otherwise the look of X's and O's gets lost. Sure do like the pink, grey and white combo. Post it when you're done -- anxious to see it finished. :)

Sassy08 04-20-2013 07:01 AM

Love the colors!! I, too, like the first one. IMHO, I think balancing the placement of lights, mediums and darks would be good. Hope to see picutures of the finished quilt.

Sandrea 04-20-2013 07:20 AM

I like the first one best.....all of the others, you lose the concept of the X's and O's idea because they all run together. I found that the first one keeps your interest and shows the difference between the X & O. First one is BEST, this is a WINNER. Looks really classy. Good luck on making your decision

Grace MooreLinker 04-20-2013 07:41 AM

The first picture is the best for me.

JanieH 04-20-2013 08:35 AM

My favorite was #2.
