How Wild Is Too Wild?

2 Attachment(s)
Trying to use up some fabric from my stash in charity quilts. Decided to put this border on a pinwheel patterned quilt but might be too wild? Tried putting another fabric in between to try to tone down the border print. What do you think? Should I just find another border fabric that is tamer? Seems like one wild print does not deserve another. LOL

I actually like it with the solid border in-between. Definitely wild, but a very fun quilt and I think someone would really enjoy it!

i vote for the in between border

No quilt police, so you can do what you want. If you are asking for opinions, I think too busy. You can go bright, but I would choose a solid. If you decide to go with the cute print, I'd include a small solid border like you show.

My opinion, as well.

Love the Laurel Burch cat print border and I don't think it is too wild for the pinwheels but I do agree you need to break it up with the solid and I like the turquoise color you chose. I think a teenaged girl would probably love this quilt. Lay it out and stare at it for a while. You will know if you like it or not.

Are those cats? I was thinking African tribal shields. LOL The more I think about it....the more likely I will be to go and buy either a tone-on-tone or solid fabric for the border and use the "cats" in something else.

If you do decide to use the cat print as a border, I much prefer it with the turquoise between it and the pinwheel body - of the two options given.

I like the red and the print used for the pinwheels - very dynamic looking.

I like the pinwheels - a lot - and I like the cat print - a lot. Not so much together. (You did ask :o ) - Because the cat print has a lot of colors that are not in the body of the quilt - and because the cat print has a totally different "feel" to me from the main body.

If you have more stash to look through - maybe look for something else for the outer border. Maybe keep the turquoise and pick up one of the darker colors in the pinwheels?

I think even young children can go for bold and dynamic.

I'm sorry I just don't like it together. Maybe you could trade fabric with a friend for something more suitable. I know everyone says "it's just a charity quilt", but I believe in doing something I would like. If you're giving it to a homeless person, then yes I'm sure they don't care what's it looks like.

For me it isn't the wildness that is the problem but the colors. It just doesn't fit with the amount of red in the pinwheels. The turquoise is good.
