I was reading the thread about displaying the quilt in town hall. And was wondering how you display your quilts in your home. Here are a couple of mine.

gunny148 05-11-2011 05:01 AM

Great idea, thanks for sharing

Stitchnripper 05-11-2011 05:02 AM

Mine are on the backs of chairs, or folded for easy access. I don't think they would be considered "art quilts", just for fun to use.

teri295 05-11-2011 05:02 AM

Your quilt hangers are quite "out of the box"! CUTE! I can honestly say I have never seen these at the local Wal-Mart (tee hee). Thanks for stimulating my creative block this morning.

Chair backs are a good idea. I don't consider anything I have an art quilt. I have 10' ceilings and needed a way to take up alot of space.

Ramona Byrd 05-11-2011 05:07 AM

Folded on my chair for instant use. On the bed to keep me warm.
Stuck in the linen closet to keep them clean. I have 2 cats that love them.
I don't really have any art quilts, except the ice cream ones that will be used in my daughter's house to cuddle her grand kids.

DebraK 05-11-2011 05:08 AM

beds and sofas.

LindaR 05-11-2011 05:09 AM

all over the house LOL, I have a quilting frame in the family room loaded, couple in kitchen, on dining room table on all the beds in the hall on quilt rack...making one for bathroom OH and in the laundry room too.

I never thought of the bathroom. But I do have a moose in the bathroom.

Most of my quilts are hung on the wall with a board in a sleeve at the top. Nails or screws fit thru a hole at each end of the board. The quilt hangs flat against the wall. If it's wider that 3', I usually have a stiffener board at the bottom in a sleeve as well. This keeps the quilt flat and it doesn't ripple.

Quilts I made for my sons', hang on curtain rods they mounted to the wall. A sleeve at the top slides onto the rod, so the quilt hangs out from the wall a few inches.

Marion T 05-11-2011 05:37 AM

Yup- mine are on sofas and chairs, and beds. I don't have them on the walls, but yours look great.

mimom 05-11-2011 05:39 AM

on the beds, wadded up on the back of the couch, over a quilt stand in the great room and I have one hanging from a wall shelf, the rest are in a closet. I rotate them often

QuiltE 05-11-2011 05:46 AM

Ohhhhhh you have given me ideas!
While the gun is unique and no doubt meaningful to you, I wouldn't use it. However ... antique farm tools, what a great idea!!! :)

I have a triple layered wall quilt rack in my bedroom, so I would be sure to enjoy my quilts all the time. If I need an extra layer at night, off one comes!

Then there's the traditional on the wall, on the bed, draped on the couch positions!

I have some quilt racks (floor and wall) I've bought at garage sales and thrift stores that are summer projects to finish off. Plus an antique spool bed that one end will be on the bed and the other will be converted into a floor quilt rack.

After some threads on this Board, I'm considering using one of my quilts in my sewing room as a patio door cover (with blackout lining for protection).

Dina 05-11-2011 05:48 AM

I have an oversized stuffed chair here in my sewing room. Most of the quilts I make are "shown" there...that and on my beds.

I think your quilt hangers are wonderful!!

Tink's Mom 05-11-2011 06:04 AM

I don't have any   all of mine have been given away...
I am planning to make a valance for the bedroom windows...making it a pieced and quilted valance.

IrelandDragonQuilting 05-11-2011 06:04 AM

I am working on a 'Wall-O-Quilts" I have made my own ladders and putting them together so they fill the wall and hang all of my quilts off of them. Eventually when I get my basement finished with a family room I want it to go in there.

olgaflowers 05-11-2011 06:26 AM

I have to say, You made my day !
never thought about hanging them that away,
guessing dare He/she.

Maggiemay 05-11-2011 06:53 AM

I have quilts hanging all over my walls although not on those unique hangers that you have! I have a quilt rack in my family room, table runners & sometimes display them on a chair. I am keeping my eye out for one of those glass front cabinets or something similar.

ShirlinAZ 05-11-2011 08:16 AM

LOVE your quilt hangers! Very unique. Now you've got me thinking.

My shower curtain is a quilt. A North woods theme quilt would work perfect for yours! Here's my posting.

I have a 25 gallon crock that the cuddle quilts get thrown into. When GK are here--often the some quilts get tossed and one of them curled up in the crock watching TV!

What a great idea. Very authentic!!!

I'm very fortunate in having a husband that is just as creative as I am. :) He's made a few pressured quilt racks for me that I just LOVE. The best part...he altered my collection of Polish Pottery knobs to be the pressure knobs!

What is "pressured"? Never heard that term before.

I have a piece of antique wrought iron fencing that is turned on end and used just like a ladder to hold quilts I have made. It is painted white, so I don't get any residue from metal on the quilts. I wish it was a little longer/taller. I have 8 quilts on it. Guess I should take a picture, so maybe I'll do that tonite and post it here. I also have a traditional standing quilt rack in my living room that I use to display my vintage quilts.

Carron 05-11-2011 02:12 PM

On the beds, over the couch, backs of chairs, quilt racks and any other place I can claim

OMG ... Now how original is that, a shower quilt!! Perfect!!

Love the crockery quilt catcher and babysitter!
(thankful not a water trough dragged in from the barnyard!!!!)

kiki1002 05-11-2011 03:08 PM

What is "pressured"? Never heard that term before.

It "clamps" the quilts without hurting them, there's a little notch for the binding to set into without getting squished. He calls them "pressure racks"...it's two pieces that clamp the quilt I think is more accurate. :)

Oh E LOL! Yes it was used as a water trough-I rescued it years ago. It's on the 2nd gen of quilt/kid catcher.

I think this is what she means. Note the wood hanger and the knobs. The knobs are on screws--loosen them and the two pieces of wood part leaving a space to tuck the top of the quilt into. I had these made more some of my smaller quilts.

Now I understand what it is. I've seen those type, and often wondered if they'd be great .... or a nuisance, trying to get the quilt in there. Looks like you'd need at least an extra person to help you at the time.

What a FUN quilt! Love it OK!

OhioStarQuilter 05-12-2011 02:57 AM

What great ideas! I have an old scythe that I bet would work just great!

jitkaau 05-12-2011 02:58 AM

I love your unique quilt hangers!

I got one of the pressure ones last year for one spot where I keep a wallhanging up as "art".
