As long as I had to sit down and look at it, because I couldn't actually do it, I spent all my time with baby thinking of all the things I COULD be doing. But, once baby was fed, dry, and happy ... I never did any of those things ... well, I did some of them, but for the most part, the only time I wanted to do certain things was when I couldn't do them. It is the same with anything we want to do ... when we have the time, we dink around doing all sorts of things that have nothing to do with what we thought we would do if "we could just go home" ... it must be a human thing ... but, we cattle people see it in the pasture - - the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, until you get to the other side of the fence, and then that silly cow figures out ... "Hey! I want over there!" Hang in there, quilters! You will have time ... the ticket is to enjoy your moments leading toward your goal - - since none of our projects will get done if we aren't employed, eh? |
my coworkers laugh at me- they tell me they know I'd rather be quilting. I agree.... anything's better than title insurance. No one understands it anyway. I come off sounding like a "know it all" when I try to explain it because I take it very seriously.
Home- I rush through things so I can sew all the time. I was home yesterday for 1 1/2 hrs. while the repairman fixed out fridge- all the while I'm trying to figure out how to go upstairs and sew. Instead I washed the floors everywhere but where he was working. Not that anyone would notice. :) |
Me tooo!! I think about quilting all day while at work and then when I get home, I want to quilt, but I have to feed the hubby and kids before I can quilt.
|
I agree!! I was unemployed for about a year and discovered that I had time to quilt but no money to buy all the goodies with. I am working now, haven't yet got my first paycheck though, so it will take effort again to find time to quilt.
|
I only work to support my quilting habit....oh yeah, and they expect food and shelter around here!
I keep graph paper on my desk at work, when I am on hold, I doodle blocks and such. |

When I was in the corporate world, it was all I could do to come home after work, feed and spend time with the children, and clean the kitchen before I fell into bed, just to repeat the process... More power to those of you who can do that!
My dream job would be one that pays enough for a housecleaner AND the fabric I want to feed my addiction!   As it is, I am grateful for a husband who loves me and isn't unreasonable about me needing to quilt. |

I have it too!! I think about quilting all day. I want to go home and sew. I so wish I didn't HAVE to work but unless a knight comes along and wisks me off to his castle with a huge sewing room and electricity...
Ok, back from fantasy land. |
I agree, that pesky work does cut into my quilting time. Along with that pesky family that insists on eating dinner every day. Imagine the nerve!:) But on the up side, only 5 more work days until Christmas break! I intend to quilt every day and no one better bother me.
|
I used to have that problem, but since I no longer have or can afford a car, I cannot even look for work. So I stay home and quilt, watch television, and play on the computer. I like this life much better.

I am retired, work part time, and volunteer at church where I hand quilt 2 days a week! It feels like the best of both worlds most of the time. And it keeps me out of the stores where I would see more fabric that I would lust over, and I have plenty if I just would stay home and sew with it!
|
Have to tell on myself. We have ReUseIt here, like freecycle, and someone advertised some bags of fabric scraps. I went out to a Universtiy theatre and got 2 garbage bags of costuming fabric scraps. I haven't sorted them all yet, but I am so tickled with what is in the bags. Some regular cottons, but so much textured fabric that looks like clothing for The Green Man of mythology! And maybe Robin Hood! Earthy colors. I will have to sort further and post a picture. This kind of stuff keeps me from sewing.

I am a stay at home mom with two kids at home - homeschool them - I volunteer with Angel Food Ministry at church - nothing else. I do keep busy but recently read some very wise thoughts- Planning to Bless - it's about planning my day so I can make sure I bless someone throughout my day if/when the opportunity presents itself - or planning ahead to do so. I have found that if I plan at least one 30 minute period a day to sew in some way, I end up having more time to sew later. Organization, I HOPE, is my way to getting more time to quilt in my days home.
|
As soon as I get one quilt finished it seems I'm thinking about another one.
|
I am like you, I have the next quilt planned while I am working on one. I work full time as well, but I have "quiltitis" bad. I get to play with my Pfaff machine on weekends but during the week, I hand quilt for a couple hours each night. I always have a quilt on the frame and it is so relaxing after a day at work to come home and just stitch away. I eventually have something beautiful to show for my time. Hand quilting is getting to be a lost art but I enjoy it.

y'all are so funny, I have to agree with the quilt-itis, I typed medical reports for several years it sure sounds like a serious condition and contagious too, I think work has to be put on the back burner until there is a cure for quilt-itis. I have it too, but my job is repairing/restoring quilts of all ages it's my medicine although, it doesn't pay so great but the at home benefits are good.
|
Yes, I work to support my habit (quilting). I have had "quiltitis" for years. My DH says it has gone from a passion to an obsession! I envy you getting to restore quilts. Quilting is my reward at the end of the day for working.

I love the hand work but it is so time consuming. I pieced a goose in the pond block by machine the other day, what a mess it was, I was quite embarrassed. My machine skills need a whole lot of practice. It can be quite an obsession, especially the magazines and books. I get so confused with which project I want to do and never do any for myself just end up looking at pictures and dreaming. Have a good day
