I love to make quilts for others - I don't always have the money to buy material so I love it when someone wants to supply me with the things necessary to have more fun. It also solves the problem of what to do with all the quilts I make ;) Have fun. Sounds like you will be busy busy!

My thoughts exactly! What a thoughtful gift. Hope they appreciate the time, effort and quality of this once in a lifetime gift. I have never heard of such a generous gift before. How fortunate they are!

Way to go on getting paid for making quilts! With what she's paying you can make the tops, send them out to be quilted and STILL make a nice profit (just make sure you get paid enough up front so you don't get stuck paying for the LAQ). That is, if you don't have a long arm machine of your own. If you do, that's even better!

QuiltQtrs 02-24-2011 08:49 AM

Price each is a real windfall .... I would go for it... you have almost a whole
year to do it, and each one becomes easier. Set up your assembly line!

IBQUILTIN 02-24-2011 09:33 AM

Great Gig. Hope you enjoy it

dunster 02-24-2011 09:46 AM

Congratulations! Your friend must treasure your work and your friendship.

quilter1943 02-24-2011 09:48 AM

Fabulous!! A great friend who appreciates the time involved and how special the quilts are. Enjoy!

I agree getting paid to do something you love is great. Does she want all the quilts the same? Do you have a long arm machine? I'm so impressed!

I have to do all the quilting with my sewing machine as I don't have a LA. I will keep you up dates as things progress.

franie 02-24-2011 10:45 AM

Sucha deal!

AnnieH 02-24-2011 10:48 AM

Wow, this'll keep you out of trouble! Good luck. Pics please.

Wow-sounds like a lot of fun! And what great gifts for the maids....please don't say it too loud, I have two sons getting married next year!

If I have time left she wants me to make a 8ft table runner for the main table.

that is a lot of work and for that kind of money I would not use premade bias tape on them..too many seams and they are not always color fast...I would make my own to make sure it matches!

if she really understood what goes into 4 custom quilts she would have this to you a year ago...good luck on the time frame.

and I would send them out for the quilting!

HummerGardenCrafts 02-24-2011 12:07 PM

I would love to get an order like that. Glad you are doing good.

Sounds like fun:) what wonderful gifts.

luckylindy333 02-24-2011 01:05 PM

Wow, I would like to see the fabric, do you have any pictures? What pattern, all the same or all different. The price sounds great! I agree, start now!

wraez 02-24-2011 01:21 PM

I'm sure you'll be happy to do it for her ... of course I hope the pattern isn't outlandishly difficult. They aren't going to be all king size are they?

Be sure to post photos as you progress along please.

alikigirl 02-24-2011 01:24 PM

Good for you. I am eager to see the pattern. I hope it is fairly easy.

Inge 02-24-2011 02:04 PM

Well I guess you need to get busy!!!!

EskapetheNorm 02-24-2011 02:06 PM

Awesome! I would have to make myself intermediate deadlines to make sure they all got done on time and with the same amount of care.

auntpatty 02-24-2011 02:09 PM

hey, thats great. Last year I sold two quilts. one queen size for $550. and a large baby quilt for $150. I felt lucky. I have to get the one I'm working done befor I can make another one to sell. I have some material for two baby quilts. It depends on how they turn out. Not sure of the design yet.

Grandma Peg 02-24-2011 02:18 PM

Good luck and keep us posted.

sarahconner 02-24-2011 02:20 PM

stichinluvr 02-24-2011 02:49 PM

I'm sure glad you have lots of time to get them done. Of course, Knowing me, I'd wait till Thanksgiving to get really serious! Have fun with it. I know they will be beautiful.

mshawii 02-24-2011 03:55 PM

Ya, what is the pattern called??? Inquiring minds want to know!!!

jitkaau 02-24-2011 04:37 PM

It sounds like a fair deal to me -do lots of layer cutting and chain piecing and you'll have them done in no time!

chuckbere15 02-24-2011 05:22 PM

Sounds like you need to have an old fashion quilting Bee.

KSue 02-24-2011 07:11 PM

Yes, lots of work - just hope the pattern isn't too complicated. Pay is good tho. Good luck and good for you - getting paid for something you love to do!!

GramaLaura 02-24-2011 07:25 PM

Wow.......can you do it?

k9dancer 02-24-2011 07:33 PM

Glad she appreciates all your hard work.

Momsmurf 02-24-2011 08:37 PM

Did she show you the pattern before you agreeded to do it?

Would be interested in knowing more about this great project you have going.
What unique gift.

pnptrapp 02-24-2011 08:48 PM

I've been trying to convince my husband that 60 dollars for a standard size baby quilt is a good price, I need to show him this post so he'll believe me!

I'd love to see some pics and hope they all come together with no issues, and no snags!

Doda 02-24-2011 08:51 PM

Now that's special...and profitable!!
Sew-n-sew...can't wait to see pictures....

(and the friendship stays golden!)

My friend is well to do and I won't have to worry about her not paying for them. 3 years ago she asked me to do the silk flowers for her son's wedding and got paid very well. I sure wish I had her life.

Someone elses life often looks better simply because we're not living it! But I do know what you mean - wish I had all the money I need and all the money I want. But God gave me a great family instead.

What a cross to bear!

bjdemir 02-24-2011 09:05 PM

More money for your own supplies. Very thoughtful and nice of her to supply all the materials up front and you don't have to go shopping for them. I hope you enjoy making them and they are fairly easy patterns.
