All I can tell you is Henry Ford proved that assembly line is the most efficient way to finish in a timely fashion. Is that possible with this pattern? Good luck dear!

winia 02-25-2011 05:37 AM

Doing what you love and getting paid for it as well. Can't get any better than that.

Baloonatic 02-25-2011 06:54 AM

Wow lucky you!! What is the quilt pattern? Are they all to be just the same? Can you post pics of the pattern and fabric?

sewbizgirl 02-25-2011 07:11 AM

That sounds great and would be fun if you could do each one a little different from the others... My daughter asked me (at the last minute) to make her bridesmaids' gifts (travel bags) and I had to turn her down... I had already made her 4 bridesmaids' dresses, two jr. bridesmaids, and a very elaborate flower girl dress, not to mention altering the wedding gown to fit and making the bustle, altering suits and pants for some of the guys, and a Marine corp dress blue coat for my husband to give her away in. I also made the ring bearer pillow, flower girl basket, the wedding arch and 8 tablecloths for the big round tables at her reception. Enough was enough, LOL!

You are going to be a busy person. It's a big compliment to your work to be asked to make these for wedding party gifts. Congratulations.

That sounds like fun and she is paying you what appears a fair price per quilt. Better get sewing. ~smile~

Cookie64 02-25-2011 07:34 AM

Congratulations. I'm glad someone knows the value of this kind of work. Most people think just because you sew, they will buy the material and let you make it and think nothing about paying you. I had this done to me so never again.

The latest on the quilts she didn't show up with the bolts and notions yesterday. I kind of got upset but she finely called this morning. Her daughter got mad at her for going ahead and buying the pattern and fabric with out talking to her first. The brides maids wanted to pick out there own fabric and patterns for there quilt. The patterns they picked from are Robert Kaufman, the patterns are Imperial, seven stars, sidelights and Mademoiselle and I am going to have to add to that pattern. No bolts this time but a generous amount of fabric for each quilt. More scraps for me to have!

I think you have a very good friend. She knows to supply the fabric and pay you for your work. Great. I think the price she offered is also a win-win for both of you. Not pricing herself out of you doing it and not insulting you by a low offer. I hope the pattern she wants is not too complicated. Perhaps you could also post that?

Enjoy, after all, you would have been making "something" anyway....why not get paid for "working" for the next few months. And I think she has given you plenty of time!! Is she paying to have it quilted too or is that part of the deal? Have fun with it. Ellen

sounds like a nice gift for the bridemaids and a lot of work for you but some nice leftovers I hope and $$$ besides nice.

Deborah12687 02-28-2011 12:14 PM

I am not happy with my friend she has not dropped the patterns and fabrics by yet. She keeps changing her mind on things and I have had it! Last I herd 2 of the brides maids have decided not to be in the wedding. I am at this point she can find someone else to do the quilts! I have a lot of projects and quilts to make and not gonna sit around and wait till the last minute to get them done for her. I sew and do art work and do other crafts to make money for myself for extra things and help pay bills. I can't trust her to carry thru at this point.

polly13 02-28-2011 04:26 PM

Deborah, I am proud of you for setting limits on your time and talents, especially when it is for a friend. Your time is valuable and you shouldn't be expected to put all others on hold indefinitely. Friends and acquaintances should be treated equally when it comes to business. Many can not avoid that controlling feature when it comes to friendship. A true friend wouldn't expect special treatment. Good for you.

So much for my comment on what a good friend she is!!! A good friend would not keep you waiting, she'd want you started and finished!!!! Too bad.

JackieG 02-28-2011 05:18 PM

That sounds like an awesome deal. It should be easy for you if all quilts are in the same pattern.

I am not sewing the quilts for her anymore. I really could use the money but I can't trust her to carry thru on things. I have many quilting projects to finish of my own. I am not friends with her anymore.

Barnsey 03-05-2011 06:42 AM

can't wait to see them finished :)

I hope you are not friends because of all this. How sad that would be

Apparently, you have a friend who absolutely comprehends the value of what you do. How exciting! <wave>

Then! I go back and read a few posts before mine posted, and alas! Someone seems to be a big talker in more ways than one. So sad!
I have long held that you really do not know me until you find out what I do when I hit my thumb with a hammer (translation: Until you see what I do when I am actually working, you have not met the real Omak.) Seems to hold true for most humans. Work has a tendancy to allow our true strengths and weaknesses to show through. <wave> Sorry to hear that all has fallen through :(
