I wanted to have an embroidery machine. My budget was $2000 and ended up chosing this machine at $1600. I know is not the latest technology but couldn't go up on the budget because this is just a hobby and this would be my third machine (have another Pfaff for sewing and quilting and a Pfaff serger).
Can you tell I am a Pfaff lover?
Now I am going to try it! It comes with free owner classes for life (once a month) and some personalized classes. My dealer here is Cynthia at Cynthia Fine Fabrics in Tamarac, FL. I love her Customer Service and dedication to her clients. Her support makes the difference!
What do you have to say about this machine? Other fanatics?

I have a Pfaff 2170 and wonder if I will ever learn all the stuff it can do. When I tell other Pfaff people which one I have it is often referred to as the "workhorse". God knows I learn by screwing up and this machine keeps right on plugging away. Fragile, it's not. I enjoy the embroidery part more, now that I've sort of got the hang of it. I'm sure you will love it and the help you will get is the best. P.S . Great price! I don't want to say how much I paid for mine 3 yrs. ago.

cassiemae 12-04-2010 12:00 PM

GREAT:
I have had a Pfaff for 8 years now and just love it when I bought mine I was told it was also a "workhorse and it is.

Mine is nothing fancy but does what i want it for.
I am glad for you. :)

CarrieAnne 12-04-2010 12:03 PM

I also have the Pfaff 2170. It's not as usuer friendly as my Janome 11000 and I guess I have a "love hate" relationship" with it. I did not get good instruction on it so it has been trial and error (mostly the latter) for me. Have not even learned the embroidery function on it and I so want to use that. Have the fabric mover and all the bells and whistles and wish I could use it to its potential. I've been back to dealer where I bought it but it's hopeless. A friend also has this and she's helped me alot and will soon teach me the embroidery...after the holidays. I've had this machine 3 yrs and still stumble around. I'm old, so if you're young, you'll get it alot easier than I have. Good luck...I wish you well and I really mean that.

ShirlinAZ 12-05-2010 07:14 AM

I'm a Pfaff lover too. I have a Creative 7530 that I adore, and last summer I bought a Quilt Expression 2.0 to get the larger throat. My dealer also gives classes free for life, and I can call and ask questions any time.

peppermint31 12-05-2010 08:05 AM

I have 2 Pfaff! I have a 1471 that I got on Ebay that I just love. Have bid on a 1475 but didn't get it. They are in high demand:(

wolverine 12-05-2010 08:11 AM

I don't have the machine that you mentioned, but I do have two Pfaff machines and a janome. I had another Pfaff that I gave to a friend. We are both thrilled with our machines and would have trouble buying anything else. How do you like your surger. I am still debating wether to get one or not. Let us know.

I do like my Janome also.

I had a 2144 which by all means and purposes was the 2170. I loved it. I could do anything with it but I would tell you to take the lessons. I traded up to the CV and can't live without it. It is begining to sing for me. This is what I am finishing for my son who spent a semester of college at the Univ. of Peking this year. This is a graduation present/Christmas present. Realize I have not ironed or quilted it yet. Just wanted to show the quality of the embroidery.

polly13 12-05-2010 09:42 AM

Mine is a 7570 and I keep dreaming, almost committed to, a Creative 4.0. Would love the ease of embroidery. Mine embroiders, but doesn't use all the modern means. Almost there, just can't seem to make the leap. If there were another cheaper machine that embroiders with ease would go for that, but I do love my PFAFF and won't get rid of it.

Kitsie 12-05-2010 09:43 AM

I, too, love my old Pfaff 1196! I have an inexpensive Brother for all the fancy stitches and walking foot but I've only a couple of hundred left to pay on(off?) my new Pfaff Expressions 3.0! Looking forward to 2011!

polly13 12-05-2010 09:44 AM

WOW!!! Your work is beautiful.

Lyn 12-05-2010 09:51 AM

Thank you. That was the first time I have put in a picture.

maryb119 12-05-2010 10:00 AM

I love my Pfaff 2144. I have all the upgrades so it's equal to the 2170. It does so many things, I wonder is I will ever get to use them all. Just have regular maintainence done and you will have years of happpy sewing with it.

Thank you guys so much!

That's so great for you. I bought my 2170 in August, 2010. I had a Pfaff 3.0 mechanical and loved the IDT feature. My budget to get an updated machine was like you, so when I found a 2170, I bought it. It truely is one of the best machines I have ever sewn on! You will love this machine. I am also still learning how to use it, but am taking the classes too. I am so happy for you! My first sewing machine was a Viking Rose which I still have. I liked it well enough but had trouble quilting with it, so I bought the Pfaff. I too have converted to being a loyal Pfaff fan.

Deezie 12-05-2010 12:43 PM

I have a 10 year old Pfaff embroidery machine, I absolutely love it. Congratulations to you.

Donnasue 12-05-2010 02:29 PM

I have a Pfaff-one of the older ones, a 1527. I am currently saving up for an upgrade. I love the machine. It is awesome! Enjoy it. Let me know how it runs.

eparys 12-05-2010 03:21 PM

I have 2 Pfaffs. A 2054 for piecing and a 2170 for Embroidery. I LOVE them both!! I got both used and they have been great, I have found only one catch - my 2170 likes only good embroidery thread.

jitkaau 12-05-2010 06:32 PM

Mine won't talk to the computer...cost $6999 plus $3300 in software...$600 for extra hoops and tons of extra software sitting idly by...
For all the other ordinary sewing it is great.

What a shame!! That's a lot of money for "ordinary sewing". I hope I don't have this problem!! So sorry this happened to you.

tlpa 12-05-2010 06:38 PM

Can you contact the store you bought the machine from?
I would hope they could help you get started!!!

I also have a 2140/2170. I love my Pfaff. I have often wondered why no one seems to talk about their Pfaff machines. I was not able to take the free classes but have a good friend who also has one and helps me a lot. Congrats!

I bought a new Smarter By Pfaff nice machine but having some trouble with it. Will take it back to the shop this week. What thread does all the Pfaff users recommend?

I have found that the Coats and Clark (both the large spool and the regular spool) thread is not a good choice unless you use the horizontal spool holder. The thread is OK, but the spool gets jammed. There is not enough space for the regular size spool to turn, and the large cotton spool does not unroll smoothly. I have sometimes used the regular size spool vertically with the large spool cap put upside down under the spool of thread. Otherwise, I have found no problems with any particular thread. the shop I bought it from recommends Aerofil, but I can't tell the difference.

I have a pfaff 7850 or is it 7580. Geess I've had this machine 9yrs. you'd think I would remember. Anyways I still haven't learned all it can do. I do like it very much It's knowledge is far greater than mine. It's not one you want to travel with very much, it's kind of weighty.
Enjoy you machine, which I know you will Pfaffs are prerry good.
Gods Blessings
Connie T.

nonnaof5 12-06-2010 09:09 AM

I had the same problem and found out I didn't have the most current File Assistant Disk. Mine has a green background w/ a circle in the center divided into four parts. The updated one has a blue cover with the words 3D File Assistant in left corner and the word PFAFF in bold red letters in top right hand corner and a picture of a design in the machine screen in the center of the cover. If you don't have this one you should check with Pfaff, there may be a small fee for it but it will be worth it if you can use your embroidery attachment.

rusty quilter 12-06-2010 09:49 AM

After owing a 1222E for 30 years, I finally upgraded to the 2140 and was offered once a month lessons for a year. At the time, I was working too much--didn't get them. You got a fantastic price! Now I am home full time and just getting to know mine as well. If you find out anything exciting--let us know.

Good deal! I got my 2170 a few years ago for about twice the price!! But I LOVE it!! Our shop has a computer and embroidery club once a month with great projects to learn the software and the embroidery functions. Have fun!

I have a Pfaff CV.. I love LOVE that machine.. it is a dream to sew on! I also have an older one that hums along like it was just out of the box. These machines make sewing anything a real pleasure!

Once a Pfaff owner, its hard to settle for anything else! (although I do have a couple of Berninas that I love, and 3 FW that I use when I'm out and about.. love them too.. and I have an old brother, several old singers.. a treadle machine, on and on.. they all needed a good home and I just couldn't help but take them in with the rest of the happy machines!!)

I can truly relate! I've lost track of how many machines I actually own! Who cares anyway...I love them all!!

debamoroso 12-06-2010 04:46 PM

I have an eight-year-old Pfaff Quilt Expression and love it. My local quilt shop has a monthly Paff owners class which has been very helpful. I am learning things I never knew this machine could do.

MaureenM 12-06-2010 05:21 PM

I love my Pfaff. I did have the 2144/2170 that I traded in for the new CV5.5. I have only had it a few months but learning all the new features. I also own the Pfaff serger, which it great. Good luck with your new machine, you will love Pfaff.
