Me, too. I'd add the extra piece at about 3/4 of the way down. Split it again a bit off center vertially and add another different strip. Will look like you planned it all along, and it makes a more interesting back. After all, when you pull the quilt up, you often see the back!

You could use the added strip to leave a message for the intended owner, as well as make it the label. Just a thought.

Yep, member of the been there, done that club. I had my backing laying on the table. Pick it up thinking it was the left over piece. As I was tearing off a rather large piece, I realize it was the backing not the leftovers. Sew it right back on and laid it with the top.
