I cut my backing too short. Gaaa :-( :x  Now I have to add a strip to the bottom. Why didn't I lay it out before I cut it? Well, considering this is my first (and ONLY) king sized quilt, lesson learned. Sigh....

Aahhh, yes, we have all done such things. It will be beautiful and a lesson learned is a good thing (smile). Show us pics when it is all done. Thank you for sharing.

Thankfully it's the back. Actually this will give you an opportunity to do something creative on the back. Why not split the difference and cut some off the sides, then frame the entire backing?

Add the strip to the middle, just like you planned!

Now THIS is why I love what Momma always used to say.... "Oh don't worry, a man goin' by on horseback ain't gonna notice!"

(Of course, we were never allowed to use that vernacular, but she loved this phrase...)

Remember, once it's quilted, no one will see it!!

Add some "back art" and claim it like you meant to do that.

I actually do this on purpose all the time. I've really gotten into the pieced backs.

I had a queen sized one all laid out and pinned, ready for quilting. Once I started quilting, I realized I was short on one side. I just cut an extra piece and added it there. It will be fine!

Most of us have done the same at one time or another. Just be glad you noticed it now before quilting.

Hen3rietta 06-03-2011 12:29 PM

Geez! I can't count the number of times I've done that. And it's uisually when I want to match a large repeat too.
