OMG! Is it Bleeker Street by Marcus? I have it all on the teal colorway . . . . . EVERY piece I could find!!! It is my
collection of all time (so far). I have made one quilt from it, but I'm saving the rest!!! LOL

snicktrain 11-06-2011 03:37 PM

Don't blame you. Your fabric is beautiful. The pattern is nice too. Nice big pieces. Just bite the bullet. You'll enjoy it. Please post when you're done.

Margie 11-06-2011 03:40 PM

Beautiful fabrics for sure.

earthwalker 11-06-2011 03:45 PM

Truly beautiful fabric....doesn't deserve languishing on a shelf. Go for it....do your best and go slowly through the tricky bits. We would love to see how you go with this....Now big deep breath and happy quilting.

If you don't, it's very likely your tastes will change and you might fall out of love with them. Horrors! To take the pressure off yourself, why not just send them to me?!

Rofl!!! Love it.

I have this one piece of fabric that I pull out occasionally just to rub and talk to. I can't bear to cut it. It stays in a drawer on my sewing desk so that it is never far.

MissSandra 11-06-2011 03:50 PM

This fabric line is Metro Blue goes Green, by Marcus Fabrics

Jim's Gem 11-06-2011 03:51 PM

It is beautiful fabric. I have a few pieces around here that I feel the same about. It is so pretty I can't find a pattern "good enough" for it!!!

G'ma Kay 11-06-2011 05:00 PM

I must be strange, but I use the fabrics I like best first. If I make a mistake while cutting or sewing, oh well. Once it's done I can enjoy the finished product in the way it's intended. I do have trouble giving some away after I've finished. Way too many things piled on the couch like that. I like your pattern by the way.

bearisgray 11-07-2011 03:43 AM

If you are truly worried about "messing up" - you could do a smaller version of the pattern you have in mind with your "not- so-loved" fabrics to see how the pattern goes.

Test blocks are sometimes a bit of a bother to make, but can save one hours of aggravation later if there is a glitch in either the pattern directions or one's understanding of them!

saraaev 11-07-2011 03:49 AM

Seems to me that having it hang out in a closet could be called fabric abuse ( shows u where my mind goes ), it worked for me. Even tho the quilt didn;t turn out perfectly, it is still very beautifdul from those fabrics. Just jump in, it won't hurt, really. Good luck.

jpmaroni 11-07-2011 03:53 AM

Beautiful fabric, and taking your time will allow you the enjoyment of seeing and touching the fabric longer.

gimlet_2001 11-07-2011 03:54 AM

That is exactly the way that I feel when I pull out my "Mountain Fairy" fabric. I have that whole set and am terrified that I will mess it up. The main fabric has big print. I'll post a picture later today to show you all what I mean.
You have given me the inspitation to find a pattern and go for it.
Thanks to you all.

I totally agree.

I have to admit I have some fabrics I haven't been able to cut yet. And I get them out every now and then and look at them - trying to decide what to do. One of these days something will inspire me I hope. The pattern you have picked out is really pretty. Don't forget to show off your quilt after you make it. Would love to see it.

blueangel 11-07-2011 03:59 AM

I say go for it.

Janet My 11-07-2011 04:18 AM

Same problem here.... I have fabric for a quilted jacket I want to make for myself... can't seem to get around to cutting it. I also have 6 yards of fabric for a OBW... can't cut that either. They are both just too beautiful. I think we both suffer from the same illness.... I'm sure it has a name....

veryvirginia 11-07-2011 04:28 AM

You sound like me -paralyzed with fear but when you think about it many quilt blocks were made when something was cut wrong or sewn wrong and inspiration took over. Go for it and see what happens. The fabric needs to be used and you need to use it and feel it every day instead of once in a while.

Diana Lynne 11-07-2011 04:31 AM

I have a few fabrics that I feel the same way about..Your fabrics are so pretty and I really can understand your dilemma..I guess the best thing would be to take a deep breath and go for it..

sueisallaboutquilts 11-07-2011 04:36 AM

Gorgeous fabrics!!!! I've had the same problem, glad I'm not alone LOL

mary j 11-07-2011 04:43 AM

Go for it! It will be great. But yes, I sometimes hold onto my fabric waiting for that "perfect project" but you have chosen a pattern, so you are good to go. Don't forget to post the finished work of art.

tupoms 11-07-2011 04:54 AM

I just recently had the same problem with some angel fabric. It was just too cute to cut into little pieces. I ended up cutting it into large strips, 6, 8 by WOF and making a large strip quilt using it as the focus fabric. Turned out really cute and was
way faster than usual.

New Quilter 11-07-2011 04:56 AM

Beautiful fabrics...Naomi

Amythyst02 11-07-2011 05:07 AM

Oh that is such pretty fabric, but you can only enjoy it if you make something out of it!! Go for it !!

grumpy90650 11-07-2011 05:16 AM

it is gorgeous fabric......take a deep breath, cut your first row for blocks, and then just keep going, your pattern is perfect for showing off the colors!! good luck.....and BTW, you are not alone in this dilemna...we all have this feeling at one time or another.....................happy cutting!!! gina

homecaregiver 11-07-2011 05:18 AM

I also agree. Go for it, use the pattern, it is beautiful then you will have a finished quilt from the fabric you love. It is beautiful fabric. I had the same problem but finally bit the bullet and made this beautiful quilt and I love it, now I don't have the worry about cutting or not cutting into it. I sleep under it now.

runninL8 11-07-2011 05:22 AM

I have several pieces that I, too, have put aside waiting for the perfect pattern, as well as the nerve to cut into. I finally decided I would rather look at these beautiful fabrics in a quilt, rather than pieces in a box. Haven't actually made them up yet - but they have become my first after the holidays project. Good luck!!

CathieB 11-07-2011 05:35 AM

I agree - go for it - then you can just wrap yourself up in that gorgeous fabric and enjoy it every day!

hunters grammy 11-07-2011 05:38 AM

I am glad to know that I am not alone with this thing of holding onto my material. I even have those 13 x 13 plastic bins for most of my "special" fabric - and a lot of them even has a pattern I think would be great to show off the fabric once my quilt is completed. What is this condition.......I tell myself - "You know if you actually make a quilt out of your beautiful fabric not only you will enjoy it, but just think of all the others that will then see it and love it!" So, by all means, go for it now - so you can really enjoy seeing it everyday.

hoofmaiden 11-07-2011 05:40 AM

ooh! gorgeous! I love it too. Go for it! The beautiful fabric will inspire you to do your best and that's good enough for everyone. Make it with love and enjoy it!

Mrs. Mitch 11-07-2011 05:44 AM

I can understand how you feel it's beautiful

SUZAG 11-07-2011 05:47 AM

That is pretty fabric but think how much prettier it would look in a quilt getting used and seen everyday! I am guilty of the same thing and have trouble using the right material for the right person; for the one that will "treasure" it the most...LOL

I get something really pretty and I think, this one will be for me...so far I think I have about 10-15 of those "for me" quilts lined up in my head. I think I will have to start being less greedy, I don't think I need quite as many quilts!

Donna Christian 11-07-2011 06:01 AM

Who is the pattern by?

sewmorethings 11-07-2011 06:26 AM

The only way to get over your fear is to just go for it and make the quilt, the pattern and fabric will do no good just sitting somewhere when you could be enjoying a beautiful quilt...........GO FOR IT

Melrose R 11-07-2011 06:29 AM

I can see why you'd hesitate, it really is a beautiful combo of fabrics! Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Anna O 11-07-2011 06:32 AM

I have that same fabric! I know what you mean.

RenaB 11-07-2011 06:34 AM

I find myself in this dilemma a lot! I will stare at it for days dreading the cut and then one day out of the blue, I go for it.

Crqltr 11-07-2011 06:37 AM

I agree with karenk...think of how much nicer it would look on a bed instead of in a pile! Go for it, and be sure to post pictures along the way. Very pretty fabric..should be used. If we waited for perfection very few of us would be quilting.

KimS 11-07-2011 06:39 AM

That is beautiful fabric. Just do it! Then you'll be able to wrap up in that fabric you love any time you wish plus have a great time making your quilt. :)

nena 11-07-2011 06:44 AM

Beautiful fabric. But just think how beautiful the quilt will be.

hoppa 11-07-2011 06:46 AM

we all have some fabric we save for a special project and this looks like yours so go for it

Jo M 11-07-2011 06:49 AM

I have to agree: That looks like the perfect pattern for your beautiful fabrics. I say "Go for it" too.
