Here is my decision...I ordered this from the same Barefoot Roses Collection, I just received it and it did what I hoped it would. I think it defines it without overwhelming my blocks..thank you for the priceless help I received, wow, what a group!!!

Just do a search on the tutorials for Ditter's String Quilt. I am making it the same way.

I made my grandson's civil war quilt the same way but I machine sewed the front strips down, with this one I am going to hand sew them down.

Every block I made got easier and easier until I could make a row in a day!!!

Oh my; a tiny stripe! I would never have come up with that idea. Please do post a photo of the completed quilt. I bet it is going to look out of this world.

LOVE IT!!!
I would never have thought of a stripe.
GREAT

Ladybug 1938 01-15-2011 11:18 AM

Really nice, doesn't take away from the rest of your blocks..

Alondra 01-15-2011 11:38 AM

Whatever the background you have the blocks on even looks good. It would be unobtrusive and would let the blocks stand out. What beautiful fabrics you chose!

Carron 01-15-2011 11:40 AM

I would use a dark color as suggested a burgundy, deep shade of rose or dark blues and the same color in the inside border of the quilt.

fireworkslover 01-17-2011 05:51 AM

Ooooh, I like that skinny stripe! What a great idea. It doesn't take away or compete with all the other prints, but compliments them - good choice. Yes, please show a picture of more of it when you get it put together.

My first thought is the blue polka dot. Can't wait to see what you chose. Be sure to post pictures of the finished quilt.

I love that little stripe. Would have never thought of that. I usually have to cut a bunch of strips and try them out.

I don't know what color to use as the joiner strips. I think this will be the most important choice for the success of this quilt.

My bedroom walls have a cobalt blue in a batik look.

I will appreciate suggestions!

Elaine

Very pretty colors ! I would audition different colors for joiner strips to see what actually looks best.

I love what you selected. Great job!!

I think a creamy white would be gorgeous:)

jdavis 01-22-2011 04:19 AM

I'm too late to vote, I'm sure, but I just wanted to say how pretty your blocks are. Can't wait to see the finished top!

quilterguy27 01-30-2011 02:05 PM

I don't have a color suggestion for you, besides you probably have gotten plenty by now. I do think your blocks are beautiful and I can't wait to see pics of it completed.

ladyelaine15 04-13-2014 01:57 PM

Wow, It's over 3 years since I posted that. I never did finish that quilt, my son took his life in Jan 2011 and I couldn't touch that quilt again, sold the unfinished quilt. I haven't sewed since then but I just saw a Strata Star table top that has made my fingers itch.
Last September we moved to Hilton Head SC so I feel I am in a different world, going to try that one.

Cute blocks! My first impulse was to go with white.

jcrow 04-13-2014 02:19 PM

I don't think I would go for stripes. I'd do a darker blue. It would really be pretty.

Maggie_Sue 04-13-2014 03:58 PM

Elaine you have my deepest sympathy. Maybe along with the move along with the Strata Star table top, may ease your pain. Please post your star.
