This is my new project, queen size QAYG 12" blocks.

I don't know what color to use as the joiner strips. I think this will be the most important choice for the success of this quilt.

My bedroom walls have a cobalt blue in a batik look.

I will appreciate suggestions!

Elaine

white

CoyoteQuilts 01-09-2011 07:00 AM

I'd go with white or WOW. Another thought would be light blue. What ever you choose it will 'frame' the blocks.

sueisallaboutquilts 01-09-2011 07:02 AM

Oh my gosh, those fabrics are gorgeous!! I agree with something very light. Please post pics when it's finished, I just love the blocks!! :)

Mitch's mom 01-09-2011 07:03 AM

Burgundy or a dark rose.

featherweight 01-09-2011 07:08 AM

I think it needs a pop color, maybe a little darker blue.
I also like the darkest burgandy in the flowers like Mitches Mom suggested.

humbird 01-09-2011 07:11 AM

would you have enought of the blue polka dot? for some reason, that popped in my head! also, the yellow. your blocks are lovely. what ever you choose will be stunning!

amma 01-09-2011 07:12 AM

Burgundy or a deep green would be pretty or a WOW to keep it all bright and light :D:D:D

frugalfabrics 01-09-2011 07:13 AM

I have no idea, I usually audition the pieces to make my final decision - it's a visual thing for me.

But I love your block colors. Very nice choice.

irishrose 01-09-2011 07:13 AM

I'd audition a white or a soft cream color or even a baby pink. White seems a little harsh to me, but cream may not coordinate with the white in the fabrics. A very soft pink would solve both problems. The colors, patterns and placement of those in your block are just beautiful.

I would also go with the darker, blue or burgandy

I agree, have to do the same even for the binding. Sometimes the color you never dreamed of winds up to be the perfect choice.

dunster 01-09-2011 07:16 AM

I would lay a few blocks out on various colors. Black would make those blocks pop (like stained glass), but it might not be the look you're after. A light color would continue the pastel theme. Grey, like the table they're on, would also be nice. They are very pretty blocks.

nance-ell 01-09-2011 07:17 AM

My initial thought was to go with white (a soft white, not a bright white). I'd also lay it out with a coordinating pink or blue and then decide. What is your backing fabric?

I ditto this suggestion.

Absolutely agree and was wondering why no one suggested this. Only thing is, I would probably use dark rose or deep green instead of burgandy. Given the fact that your room is dark (at least I think that's what you said), I think those deeper colors would set it off beautifully.

Lost in fabric stash, Cherie

ladyelaine 01-09-2011 07:34 AM

The yellow is the backing fabric. I like the blue polka dot, I can get some more. Most of the fabrics are from Barefoot Roses from Freespirit.

Never thought of white, but I tried it and it looks good, Like the dark rose too....

I thought blue polka dot too... Use something from the blocks to make it looked plan, otherwise it will look a little disjointed... IMHO

natalieg 01-09-2011 07:44 AM

My thought was white, but after reading the soft pink and the burgundy and the reasons, those seem like good choices too. Sorry, not much help.

I would not introduce another blue - hard to blend blue - something in the light rose shade - as in your prints. Beautiful soft colors - you want to keep it that way.

Mariposa 01-09-2011 08:32 AM

I vote for a pale pink. Will be nice with the block scheme, and also be nice with your cobalt blue walls! JMHO.

I like this suggest the best and lean towards a darker color to make it match up with your room and make those blocks pop.

So green or rose gets my vote!

kso 01-09-2011 08:40 AM

Green, like the leaves in the floral print.

feffertim 01-09-2011 08:44 AM

I think the dark burgundy in the rose would be good too

Stitchnripper 01-09-2011 08:52 AM

Your blocks are beautiful. I agree with the suggestions to audition different colors/fabrics and see which ones you like best. Will look forward to a picture of the completed quilt. Are you using Betty Cotton's method?

ladyelaine 01-09-2011 08:59 AM

I am using the method I found here, "Ditter's string quilt", it is so easy!

Thanks!

littlehud 01-09-2011 09:07 AM

I would go with the darker colors. It would showcase those wonderful blocks.

hobo2000 01-09-2011 09:10 AM

To keep it soft and spring, I would go with cream. Pink makes it prissy, and blue seeMs to darken it. I love the softness of it and lightness. Brightens a darker room. It is going to be a beauty!b

This is a fabric I ordered yesterday, it is in the Barefoot Roses line too, For the joiners I was thinking of using either the pale pink with a little white on either side or now I'm leaning more towards using the darker rose with the pale green inside.

I'm going to just keep making blocks until I'm sure. I had a lot of suggestions I never thought of and THANKS!

NannySandy 01-09-2011 09:15 AM

I love your fabrics. The colors are gorgeous!

This is another of the Barefoot Roses fabric which would give me more of the darker rose, decisions, decisions.

BellaBoo 01-09-2011 09:19 AM

I would use scrappy joining strips, the same as your block strips.

FranW 01-09-2011 09:19 AM

Beautiful blocks! I know this is "out there", but I wondered what a chocolate or caramel would look like! Just a different thought!

bkb 01-09-2011 09:20 AM

frame them with burgendy and join them with white

greensleeves 01-09-2011 10:22 AM

Try different colors but if it were for me I'd do white.

ann clare 01-09-2011 12:22 PM

Beautiful blocks

cathyvv 01-09-2011 12:25 PM

I agree with Amma.

Love the fabrics, too!
