Burgandy is my vote. If its quilt as you go, how do you join the blocks? Doesn't it make it 'clumpy'??? I'm newish so 'scuse the question. They look great btw.

You may have already done this...lay out any of the fabrics that you are considering, then lay the blocks on top with spacing to see the sashing, then stand back. You should be able to tell which one you like the best that way. |

I don't know what color to use as the joiner strips. I think this will be the most important choice for the success of this quilt. My bedroom walls have a cobalt blue in a batik look. I will appreciate suggestions! Elaine |

I also like the darkest burgandy in the flowers like Mitches Mom suggested. |
I'd definitely go with something strong - I too like the burgandy in the rose fabric.
The blue polka dot would be a bit darker, but set them off.Love the use of stripes in your blocks....they are very nice.
I have no idea, but those blocks are beautiful!
I would go with that white with blue floral that you have in the blocks.

Any darker blue will be nice, your blocks r fabs
Dark tan or navy
Love the colors, but i'll let a more experienced quilter suggest colors
First glance at the picture and the background of the area where the squares are laid would be my choice, it seems to be a light blue/gray and the picture reminded me of soft music. Whatever that background is would not make a statement, or detract from the squares, it would compliment them.

I think I would pick up a rose color from the dark flower. Its beautiful but you need something to make it pop. Just my opinion

Your blocks are very pretty. Lay the blocks on several different fabrics and see which one strikes your fancy,
If you want to keep it all pastel, I'd choose a brighter pastel of any of the colors in the blocks (blue?) ... but if you choose a dark sashing it will change the look completely. To match the room, choose a cobalt-ish blue and that might look great! Definitely audition.
The suggestion of the blue polka dot strikes me as a very good possibility if you want to keep the pastel theme going. The dark burgandy of the flowers would be a good choice, otherwise.

my thought is also, the blue with the dots. I love dots, and sounds like you like blue. Beautiful blocks. I love doing string piecing.......I save all my scraps and made those blocks. One day I will put it together.....just have fun while you are making it. It's the journey.......
I would not use any fabric that is in the squares. I would use darker blue if your room is painted blue. The contrast would make the squares pop.
Do you want a girlie look? Then white on white. Do you want a striking look? Then burgundy. (that's my preference but I like brights)
Elaine,
Is this a paper piece pattern? It is gorgeous! |

I have had some great suggestions, I think I'm going to go with the blue dots. I wanted something darker and this is the deepest color in the block and I didn't want to use a new fabric.
Thanks so much for your help, I will surely post photos when I am done, I think this is going to be a dandy quilt! |
Well from the many answers, we are all over the place. I think a light color but not white It would go so well with the beautiful colors in your blocks. I would love to see the pics as you put your blocks together. It is going to be beautiful!!!!!
this is the good thing about this board. we all have opinions. you should do what you like and you want!!!! Just preview the fabrics and one will say.....it's me!
That is beautiful!!!!!!
yes burgundy or dark rose would be stunning and would look good with the blue walls
Your blue dots work out perfectly - keeps the quilt in soft colors - what an interesting thread -

That polka dot might look really good -- my FIRST thought was a light, light, blue, almost white. Not that I am an expert, but I would definitely audition a couple of ideas between those blocks to see how they really look. A dark blue would pop them out alright if it didn't clash with the cobalt on your walls.
Yep -- I do like those POLKA DOTS...... Looks great....
I would take one of the blocks to my quilt shop and audition it against different fabrics to see what I really like.

I think even a taupe, like what's in the narrow strip, would bring out the rest of the colors
Personally I'll go with a creamy peach. Orange/peach is opposite the blues on the color wheel thereby giving your eye a full spectrum of color and is complimentary to the pinks. Lovely colors!

If you have some larger pieces of fabrics you want to try, spread them out and lay your blocks on them, leaving about 1/2" or 1" showing. Then take a photo and look at the photo. I tend to see more from a photo. The blocks are so nice. I would probably sash with one of the lighter fabrics but I would like to see what they look like on black and grey. I will pop in later to see how many choices you give us. Love the work in progress photos. Thank you. On Edit: Look how active this post is. All these updates before I could get mine typed. :) . Lovin it! |
I just finished one of these and posted it on the board. I went with a neutral for my joiners and also used it as the middle strip in the block. Your blocks look great and I LOVE the polka dot joiners. I would have thought to use yellow, but that choice is great! Good luck finishing it!
Poor you - so many different suggestions! I'd go with the blue polka dot as well!
i would use a summer green...perhaps leaning toward lime..depends on the shade in your quilt..
Green goes with everything.. ie.nature shows that, and it would compliment the walls...blue can be tough to match... other than that i'd do the white... it needs to be neutral to work with all the other pastels...:) |
I think it needs a pop color also. A darker blue would set it off.
i'm late again....but i think you made the perfect choice!Love the dots and the match is perfect of course, it's already in there.....and the room being blue will make the whole thing sing!!!!!!!!!!!
