My go -to baby quilt is alternating 9-patch blocks with squares of the focus fabric, or making snowball blocks alternating with 9-patch blocks. Years ago I attended a lecture by Mary Ellen Hopkins who stressed making simple blocks, but with gorgeous fabrics, makes for great quilts. To me, fabric makes the quilt, especially a baby quilt. I don't know if it helps or not, but sometimes simple is better.

Why not do a jelly roll quilt. I don't think they come any faster.

I second the vote on wonky stars. So easy and yes, a scrap buster.

10 minute block is just about as fast as you can get.

The Super Sized 9-Patch is a great way to quickly get 3 baby quilt tops using 3 yards of fabric. They are super cute, especially if you add a little applique.

Carpenter Star made with charm squares -- with borders, its the perfect size for a baby quilt. I've got 5 made up for boys and girls, ready to gift. I put minky on the back of a couple, used flannel inside as batting, and its simple quilting. Fast and very pretty when done - looks complicated and its not.

Ditto what lynnie stated! you could also make a cute "Crazy Baby Quilt" with sashing and tie it.

Another one I've done is a QAYG - I put the backing right side down, a layer of white flannel on top, and then sew rows of baby-ish fabrics in simple rows from one side to the other. I use strips of 2.5 inch fabrics, and really mix it up. Once you get to the other end, its already quilted, and you just have to put on a simple binding or prairie points if you want to get fancy. Very, very fast.
