Thank you ladies for all the good ideas. I plan to make 40 more log cabins to complete the center and then add a narrow floating border and then another row of 1/2 circles to create that scalloped look and will bind with the multi colors. At least that is the plan today - it could change mid way through those 40 blocks:).
Grannies G - this pattern is from "Sew Kind of Wonderful" and requires the Quick Curve Ruler. It is part of a block of the month series using the ruler - here is the Youtube tutorial:
Is this a specific pattern or did you trim the blocks with the white fabric?

The pattern states to make 9.5 inch log cabin blocks (my units are cut 2 inches wide and finish at 1.5 inches), then trim them to 8.5 by trimming the white side edges. I actually gleaned that from reading the comments under the tutorial video, but it seemed to work. Also for the white pieces, you cut 8 inch squares, cut them in half diagonally and then use the curved ruler as indicated in the video. I hope that helps.

WOW! I'm speechless so stunning. I personally like Tartans' idea however no border is also a good choice.
