If I lived close to you I'd offer to bind them for you. I like binding, but do it all by machine.

Thank you, Jan. That's very nice of you to offer.

My daughter would probably do it if I asked. I just hate asking. She's already helped me with a couple of parts of the quilt, but she's a quilter, busy with her kids' activities & works full time. Most of the time, I'm pretty independent.

I hate the fabric preparing, and then the cutting. I hate to iron fabric and I hate the rotary cutter. I procrastinate a lot when it comes to starting a new project.

audsgirl 08-21-2011 09:55 PM

I like doing binding, but I really hate the quilting of the quilt. I wish I could hand quilt.

I also take the back and wrap it around it's so much easier I do all my quilts that way

i would love to know the specifics of this...would love to try it!

gramajo 08-22-2011 07:53 AM

Yeah! It's all bound & in the washer.

I'll post pictures next time my daughter is over. She has to put pictures from my camera on the computer for me.

It's "I Envy Sylvia" made from Sylvia's Bridal Sampler.

Grandma Libby 08-22-2011 09:36 AM

I'm with you on that... 10 years ago I could have done that crawling-around stuff -- not now!

Rann 08-22-2011 09:58 AM

I hate not having enough room to set up my sewing/quilting stuff.

Bonnie P 08-22-2011 12:30 PM

I don't like doing bindings either!

Meme2six 08-22-2011 01:45 PM

Do not like making the "sandwich" and pinning it.

Exactly how do you do this? Glue a small area, iron it, glue some more, iron? I bought a glue stick thinking about using it, but wasn't sure how to do it, so I went back to pinning & cussing about the danged binding.

Yes that's exactly the way you do it. I usually put a line of glue that is the same length as my iron is long. Clear as mud?
I do like using glue for my bindings & for matching seams. Glue rocks!

I hate cutting.

travelingquilter 08-22-2011 08:13 PM

i place my blocks on a spare queen bed...the hard part is pinning the rows together....my back gets to aching to reach the middle!

kim_s 08-22-2011 08:51 PM

I get frustrated squaring up blocks. I put so much time and effort into accurate cutting and sewing an accurate quarter inch seam allowance but my blocks still end up uneven! Everything else I really enjoy!

BETTY62 08-22-2011 08:53 PM

I'm with you. I do not like doing the binding.

blueangel 08-23-2011 01:06 PM

Binding is my least favorite things to do also.

Winkee 08-24-2011 11:32 AM

I love doing the binding, it is my favorite part!

Wunder-Mar 08-25-2011 07:55 AM

I really hate trimming the dog-ears off triangles.

Mitch's mom 08-26-2011 06:19 PM

I hate squaring the fabrics and the final quilt. I have never figured out if I'm doing it correctly. I know one of these days I am going to screw up a perfectly good quilt. I don't get the off grain thing either. How do you ladies look at fabric and instinctively know it is off grain? I buy good fabrics to avoid problems but I know problems occasionally happen with every manufacturer.

I should stick to baking - that I don't screw up!

Relax. Unless its going in a show it doesn't have to be perfect. Do your best, learn with each one, & soon you'll wonder what was so hard.

Keep baking but don't give up on quilting!!

PS I prefer to make the blocks too big & cut down instead of blocking. Hope this helps.

Stitchnripper 08-26-2011 07:15 PM

I honestly don't mind any of it. I get a little nervous when I am cutting, because I don't always get it right, but, other than that, it is enjoyable for me. I'm no expert, though, and sometimes I have issues, but, after things are washed and dried, most of the time, they disappear.
