I see an addiction forming...

Well, I got my new sewing machine in, and though I've yet to fire it up (or even take it out of the box-SELF CONTROL!! LOL) I've started on my first project. I also ordered a small cutting board and rotary cutter. (As for the cutter, all I can say is - WOW! Where has this been all my life??)

I spent most of the evening cutting the pieces for my first quilt, and matching them up into blocks. As much as I want to move forward, I am stopping here. It's after midnight, the dogs are hungry, and I still have to test-sew on the machine before I even BEGIN to get involved in this! LOL.

This will be a quilt for my niece; she is the first girl in this generation, as she has a brother, and two male cousins, as well as 3 male second cousins! (needless to say she's spoiled!) She was born this past March, so I'm making her a pink and green quilt for her first Christmas. :) I also have a new nephew born at the end of August, so I need to get cracking and make a blue one too!

Wish me luck! (Here's the cut pieces matched up in their blocks.)

Oops! Forgot to say I'm using the Wickedly Easy Quilt Pattern. :)

You are off to a great start. Don't forget to show us the end result.

LoupEsprit 11-09-2012 11:44 PM

Oh, for sure! :) I'm generally not very patient with new projects, but I'm forcing myself to be patient and do everything RIGHT with this quilt. No shortcuts, no rushing, no guesswork or "good-enough's" LOL! I'll tell ya, it's taking all the self-control I've got! :(

I'll probably post a few more WIP pics along the way.

HillCountryGal 11-10-2012 03:38 AM

LoupEsprit... what you're doing is called "savoring".
Taking time to enjoy each step of the process is a good thing.

Toni C 11-10-2012 04:44 AM

Wow I'm in awe of your self control. You go girl!

Buckeye Rose 11-10-2012 05:24 AM

Love the pattern and the fabrics you have chosen! This is another for my bucket list.

Dina 11-10-2012 05:56 AM

What great fabric! Have fun!!

Dina

NikkiLu 11-10-2012 06:15 AM

WOW - you have a great eye for fabric/color - have you sewn garments before or had any sewing experience before?

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 11-10-2012 06:18 AM

I love your fabrics! Hearts, dots, pink, green ... as far as I'm concerned you are off to a wonderful start.

Sunnye 11-10-2012 06:19 AM

LoupEspirit, love the name, love your blocks and the colors!
I used the Wickedly Easy pattern on one of the first quilts I did. It is easy and so pretty.
Your quilt will be so devine. Good luck.

OKLAHOMA PEACH 11-10-2012 06:22 AM

Love the colors of green and pink together, good going and have lots of fun.

QultingaddictUK 11-10-2012 06:35 AM

Don't worry about the addiction, it's legal and healthy, well for you but maybe not for your purse :)

I have made a couple of the Wickedly Easy pattern and they came out lovely but your choice of fabrics is going to really show the pattern of to it's best. Keep us posted on your progress pretty please.

sash 11-10-2012 06:53 AM

Thanks for the pattern; just printed it off. I had never seen this pattern before and I really liked it. So, thanks again. Will be anxious to see your quilt progress.

Luv Quilts and Cats 11-10-2012 07:10 AM

I can't wait to see it done! The fabrics are so cute. And yes, this is an addition. No cure as of yet except to buy fat quarters when they are on sale! At least that works for me, I can get lots of colors and pieces without buying a yard or 3 (which is what I would do if I had more money!!!)

amandasgramma 11-10-2012 07:17 AM

Welcome to our world................by the way, the addiction takes over everything --- I've now got 1 bedroom filled up, half of another and a shop out back. :) :) :)

LoupEsprit 11-10-2012 08:17 AM

I got these fabrics as a fat quarter set on etsy.com, and loved the colors/patterns, so I snatched up a couple sets.

I haven't done any garment sewing before, mostly just 'playing around' projects, or costuming (Belly Dance, Halloween).

Knitette 11-10-2012 08:25 AM

Pink and green are my two favourite colours and you've chosen a great pattern too.
You're right not start anything when you're tired (a lesson most of us should follow, lol).
It will be lovely. Good luck

Dolphyngyrl 11-10-2012 10:39 AM

What machine did you get, how exciting

justflyingin 11-10-2012 12:42 PM

We're all enablers to your addiction. :)

jcrow 11-10-2012 03:25 PM

Welcome to the world of quilting!!! You never did say what sewing machine you have. Are you going to keep us in suspense? I think I am one of the few who love the cutting process. I have many quilts cut out and laid aside. Probably 10 or more. That seems to be my favorite part. I'm happy you are so excited about quilting!!! You might want to meander through the sewing machine manual before you get her out and read about her. You'll probably find some exciting abilities that she has that you don't know about. Congrats!!!!

batikmystique 11-10-2012 03:35 PM

Cute fabrics! Love the dots and hearts...definitely good choices for a little girl's quilt. Enjoy the journey and please post a photo when you're done. :-)

Grandma Peg 11-10-2012 04:21 PM

Very pretty fabrics. Your quilt will be so nice, the Wickedly Easy pattern is a fun one to make.

nannyrick 11-10-2012 04:29 PM

That is so pretty. Please show us when it is completed.

jemma 11-10-2012 04:36 PM

annthreecats 11-10-2012 04:50 PM

Love the fabrics you are using. Enjoy the journey. Quilting should be fun.

Marycumi 11-10-2012 05:13 PM

Great start.

ghquilter53 11-11-2012 03:53 AM

Thank you for the pattern site. I am keeping this one. Love your fabrics, too.

mary123 11-11-2012 03:58 AM

Love your fabrics. Looking forward to seeing the quilt when you finish.

JCrow, Wow! You have 10 quilts cut out. Do you use the acciquilt cutter? Sounds like you have a lot of self-control. I would be so anxious to sew on them.

Amythyst02 11-11-2012 05:07 AM

Love the fabric, and the pattern your using is so much fun. Can't wait to see your results. I have one on the cutting table, blocks are sewn together just need to put them all together now.

MimiBug123 11-11-2012 05:18 AM

Can't wait to see the finished product, because your fabric choices are great!

JanieH 11-11-2012 08:05 AM

Love your color choices and admire your self-restraint! Can't wait to see the finished quilt!

carolynjo 11-11-2012 11:26 AM

That's gonna look so good! Keep us posted.

Caswews 11-11-2012 11:30 AM

Good luck and be sure to show us the outcome !

LoupEsprit 11-11-2012 11:37 AM

I didn't get to work on it yesterday; I had to transport some dogs, then clean the house before a wine/book club. It was fun (The wine/book club part) but I didn't get to work on the quilt any. Hopefully today!!

Thank you all for the encouragements! I really hope it turns out as well in 'real life' as it is looking in my head! :)

I have a Brother CE7070 that is somehow still taped up in the box. I will at LEAST get the manual out today and read through it!

gramma nancy 11-11-2012 03:28 PM

This is going to be great! Can't wait to see the completed blocks and then the quilt.

That's one of my favorite patterns when I want a quick quilt that looks hard to make.
