I am extremely proud of myself.

I drove down to Niagara Falls, NY to go to Joann's.

I needed Boy Scout fabric, as my scout master's wife had her baby a month early, so I'm scrambling to get the quilt done now!

I went in, got the fabrics I needed... and nothing else. Even though fat quarters were 99 cents, and there was some reduced fabric I loved!!! I used my will power and didn't even look.

Normally I would stock up on stuff "just in case"

I think having to cross the border the same day maybe had something to do with it, but I'm proud of myself anyways!!!

You are much stronger than I am

SaraSewing 04-15-2010 10:53 AM

Hurray! Get that stash whittled down. You showed willpower. You SEW girl!

sewcrafty 04-15-2010 10:54 AM

Let me tell you how proud I am of you!!! Between last week and this week around $300, if not more and thats not including the stuff the week before that!!! Bringing stuff in and hiding - as DH already thinks I have enough!! Then I'll bring it out and say this is what I'm going to make with this and its for!! I just sort of get this look. Suppose he's caught on?

I found coats thread from .50 to .95 on clearance a spool. Let me tell you do I have the thread now. Then I went down the line and just started pulling all different colors and makes from all-purpose, machine & hand quilting, etc. Then there's the notoins and fabric!! OMG!!!

Definitely have to stay away for awhile!! Will be going through therapy though!!  What am I suppose to do with my 50% off coupons?

Deb watkins 04-15-2010 10:55 AM

Oh my goodness, send her some medication....she walked away almost empty handed...............she definately is ill...and apparently out of her mind.

Our Joanne's is having a 50% off all quilting notions and tools sale through this Saturday. Luckily, (or unluckily??) I don't have any extra money. So although I really want the big cutting mat, I just can't get it. Oh well, I guess I don't really NEED it right now..... so, it's OK!!!

MadQuilter 04-15-2010 03:28 PM

Good job! I am sure that there will be some fabric at Joann's next time you go in. Not all is lost. lol

PurpleBecca 04-15-2010 03:29 PM

Well done on the will power - exceptionally brave of you!!!!

dkabasketlady 04-15-2010 05:10 PM

I'll see how I do tomorrow when I go to JoAnn's. I went yesterday and didn't do too bad, but I forgot some things and have to make another trip. Thankgoodness I have a 50% off coupon!! Get in and get out, right?

Boston1954 04-15-2010 06:08 PM

I thought this was going to be a story about bad customer service.....

Glad you kept yourself in check.

kylenstevesmom 04-15-2010 06:28 PM

I actually had AWESOME customer service.

I couldn't find the BSA fabric, and I even called to see if they had it. The lady evenutally found it.

I was also looking for cheerleading fabric, and the girl walked around, and just as I was cashing out she said she found a blanket panel for me, and would that work.... it's for my neighbour, so I figure when I go back next weekend I'll either buy it or not.

I have 3 different areas in my house that I have fabric, but I also have a stash in our paid storage warehouse. I need to get a handle on of that before I can buy more!

My goodness. Sounds like my sister. She is her own quilt shop.....

littlehud 04-15-2010 08:14 PM

What great willpower. Much better than mine. I went to get some Kona cotton and ended up with way to much. I need to go shopping with you.

sunkistmi 04-15-2010 08:20 PM

I am SOOOO glad I am not alone. I felt so guilty about hiding stuff, well sort of guilty.

craftybear 04-15-2010 08:25 PM

Wow, you did good, so now are you going back in a few days to buy things??

MegsAnn 04-15-2010 09:59 PM

Great job! Me, my stash is too small so I get to go a little crazy when fat quarters are $1. I got 15 of them last week. But hey, that's still only $15 which isn't too bad.

Joan 04-15-2010 10:05 PM

Hey, guys, the story isn't over yet!

She didn't mention everything she wanted that "we" know she will soon go back for!

mom-6 04-16-2010 04:22 AM

Good job!

I wasn't quite as successful...Had to go to Ft Worth to pick up a 16'x24' tarp for the roof of the booth and my friend and I just 'had' to check out Hancocks and Joannes on the way home. I managed to get out of Hancocks for just over $30 by only looking at what was on sale. At Joannes on the other hand...one piece on sale (got all 5-3/4 yd) and one I couldn't resist that wasn't on sale but was what my friend calls 'drop dead gorgeous'...got 2 yd of it since I really don't know exactly what I'm going to use it for but couldn't bring myself to get more at full price

kylenstevesmom 04-16-2010 04:29 AM

Well... I do need to go back, cause I need batting for this quilt, but I figured that was a good excuse to go during a camping trip, to get away from the boy's and thier dad!!!

I am so short on space right now, that I HAVE to cut back on what I buy because the clutter is driving me crazy!!!

I came over to the US last January to visit my American friend - she was having radiation therapy for cancer and I wanted to spend some time with her. One day she had to go to work (she is a star and worked through all her treatment!) She asked if I would like to be dropped at Hancocks as she was driving by and be picked up later (would I??????!!!!!)

ANYWAY

She called me and asked if I thought I could manage another hour or two in there as she had to visit someone else on the way back to the shop!! Then she stopped talking and said 'What am I saying? - why did I even call???'

We have known each other since we were 9 and I have ALWAYS been addicted to sewing (she doesn't sew a stitch!!)

It was very funny!!

When she arrived in the store SOMETIME later - I had a trolley pilled HIGH with bolts of fabric - tee hee!!!!

Arizona Sunrises 04-16-2010 04:47 AM

Does doing really well at Joann's count if you were very, very bad at the LQS?

wvdek 04-16-2010 04:52 AM

I'm so proud of you! That wasn't so hard was it?

I think my willpower is alot better now that I realize
I don't have to have all the fabrics I like and it sure beats the hiding and lying to my DH who does not deserve to scramble with the bills because of my overindulgence and lack of willpower.

Well done.

The good thing about JoAnn's is that they are always having sales on something. I have to resist everytime I get a coupon!

Willpower is Good Power!!!

mary705 04-17-2010 06:07 AM

I also restrained from buying more fabric at JoAnn's Friday. Wanted some glow in the dark thread and it was 50% off. I did buy a couple of plastic storage containers, also 50% off. I did walk through and touch the fabrics though.

Mousie 04-17-2010 06:41 AM

I am proud of you.
It's easy to keep buying fabric that either we may never use or have to give away, or by the time we use it, it's 'old'.
Using restraint and just doing your business,...now that took courage and saved dollars!
I am trying to learn restraint, so hearing you passed up looking at the .99 fats...you did GOOD!

CONGRATULATIONS !!! You are a stronger person than I am.....and thank you for letting me know that fat quarters are on sale for 99 cents....guess where I am headed for.........

alaskasunshine 04-17-2010 12:14 PM

I am so proud of you!!!!!!!!!!! I'd love to get some thread!

Patty 04-17-2010 03:08 PM

well I didn't!!! Bought about a dozen fat quarters and 2 new pair of scissors!!! wanted more but was in too big a hurry. I deliberately did not get a buggy or a basket.

zz-pd 04-17-2010 08:50 PM

Oh hats off to you, If I had money I would love to buy fabric, as is I go and tortore myself. I don't have money but every once in a while I go look at the fabric, yes it hurts to walk and drive, but sometimes I need to get out of the house. and they have this beautiful purple fabric I go look at all the time. but its 8.99 a yard. congrads on your control. Penny

jemcnutt 04-18-2010 03:41 PM

YOU ARE WOMAN!!! HEAR YOU ROAR!!!

Dragonfly Nana 04-18-2010 03:44 PM

You did soooo much better than I did last week. Went in for the large cutting mat (50% off) and some thread.....$200.00 later I came out of the store and had to use the cart to get it all to my car!
Great deal but oh my......I was so bad!!!!! tee hee

biloxigirl 04-18-2010 04:59 PM

I'll bet our husbands wished we had your restraint :-)

QBeth 04-19-2010 06:00 AM

True confession time. I am SO powerless!!

A couple of weeks ago, three women here in work asked me to teach them quilting. How could I say no?! I knew about the BIG Joann's sale last week and kept warning them that that was the week to get the basics, especially big ticket items like the mat, ruler, and rotary cutter. They committed to the class on Friday so we went shopping. I was so good -- didn't buy a thing. That day.

Saturday. Went to the Joann's near home. Decided that if I was going to teach a class, I'd better get a duplicate set of everything so I could leave it at work and not lug it back & forth. Ohhhhhh, so bad! About $200 later, I had everything from a new rolling machine case to a bunch of fat quarters I really didn't need. Fortunately, EVERYTHING, even things not marked, was on sale. I couldn't even use the coupons I had.

My daily mantra is now "STAY AWAY FROM JOANN'S.... STAY AWAY.."

Bailey's mom 04-19-2010 06:03 AM

I love joanns and it loves me too!!!lol

SNUGQUILT 04-19-2010 07:36 AM

I too went to Joanns, but did NOT restrain myself very well! I needed grommets for some family room curtains I was making....got those and 10 patterns! The McCalls patterns were on sale for 99 cents EACH!!!! There was a limit of 10, so I filled my limit! I then had to go back the next day (didn't buy enuf grommets), and bought 7 more patterns! :)

I stop at least once a week. Don't buy necessarily just stop to look. I had an owners class Friday night and couldn't stand it so I bought some fat quarters. In my area Joann's is the only game in town. Our local Walmarts have quit carrying fabric. I drove 2 hours just to find a quilt shop that sold crayon quilts.
