I need a sewing table! I'm tired of setting things up on the kitchen table every time I want to sew. Any recommendations on sewing tables you've purchased or built?

I have a table that my father made. It is 30"wide by 5' long and I have put risers under the legs to make it taller. Sometimes I decide I like it at regular table height and take the risers out. I definitely like having the height adjustable. I keep my sewing machines on it and also a small plastic hobby chest what contains all of my thread.

I have a Perfexxion system which is perfect for me...I have my embroidery machine on one end, my Janome 6600P in the middle and a couple more machines on the other end. Downside is that it's rather pricey...upside is that I needed the space.
I have also got a couple of friends who have the Gidget (spelling??) table and they really like those. So I guess it just depends on what you need...

If it's just for sewing, the plastic folding tables are handy to have around. I got one from Office Depot that has legs that will adjust every 2", which is nice. It was more expensive than the ones I saw elsewhere, but on those, there weren't many height options with the legs. There are some portable ones with inserts that will allow your machine to sit down inside it, making it easier for quilting. They are small though and you'd probably need to put it up against another table for quilting. If you are looking for a furniture type of table, there are many, some pretty expensive. I saw one at my LQS that was around $1800.

There are a bunch on this site. I haven't purchased a table there, but I think I have purchased feet for my machines there.

I have a older cabinet that did have a sewing machine with it. It was a 60's cabinet so my husband took out machine and made a cutout to fit my newer machine and now I have a nice cabinet with three drawers I like it.

Check out your local Goodwill, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity for a decent kitchen table, preferably square or rectangle. Cut a hole the size of your machine where you want to sit. Build a box, attach on the bottom side to hold your machine (be sure to cut a hole for the cords). Add risers and you've got a very inexpensive sewing table.

The best investment I ever made was a SewEzi portable sewing table. It allows my machine to be at the proper height for my arms and wrists and I can sew for hours without strain. It has interchangeable inserts for different machines and is slick so material slides across it. I can set it up anywhere and it fits in my car for taking to retreats. I waited until i could test it out at a show and it was sent to me in a very study shipping carton. I love it.

Before i used a office supply store table that did not have adjustable legs. The machine was 2-3 inches too high and it was uncomfortable to sew with only the extension table. Doable and I did use it for years and it only cost less than $40 new. Now it is my cutting table and the extension table for the Sewezi.

My first sewing table was a desk. It had three drawers on the left side, making it ideal for me to sit with the machine on the right side. Of course, through the years, I have needed more space.....

Wal-Mart on line carries this table for $119.00 with free shipping to your store. It also comes in pine. I have 2 of them. I bought one and then my Sister decided she didn't want hers anymore and had her Hubby build her one so I took hers. My BIL put a hole in one of them so I could set my machine down in it. If you want to look on WM's site, just put sewing table in the search and they will come up.

I bought an inexpensive wooden dining table from IKEA ($60 and was 30"x48"). I traced the outline of my machine's base and cut the space out, sanded the edges so they would be smooth. Mounted a shelf underneath the hole. It was attached to the upper with screws and glue (I made sure it would hold an elephant). Then sat my machine down inside the hole. I then took the clear vinyl sheet material you can find at Joann's or Hancocks and covered the entire table with it, cutting out a space for the machine but leaving it so that a portion would cover the area between the machine and the edge of the hole it sat it. Stapled the plastic under the edge of the table. It worked great. the plastic was super slick so material glided over it. I recently gave it to my mother and we were able to just cut the hole a bit bigger and it fits her machine now. Also table legs were wooden and my mother sits very low when sewing so we just cut a couple of inches off the legs so it would be more confortable for her. In retrospect, if she wanted it higher we could have just gotten some 4x4 block legs (Lowe's trim department) and raised it too.

I just bought the Gidget 2 table by Arrow from Amazon. $180 with free shipping. I've also heard good things about the SewEzi table. I wanted one that could fold up and be put away... I'm living in a relatively small condo these days - so I could "tear down camp" if I ever had a need to use my dining room for something other than sewing. :)

i have this table too. I bought 3 inserts for my Juki, Singer and Brother machines. Shipping was fast and customer service was great!

I got a nice table desk (okay, I admit I bought 4 of them) at second hand stores. They are ridiculously sturdy and two of them have a pencil drawer in the front which I find super handy :) For some reason, I'm not able to post pics or else I would.
I have 3 of them set up in my craft room, side by side so I have a wall of tables more or less... the 4th one woudln't fit in my new craft room - I had gotten it to raise up for a cutting table but it was really wobbly when we raised it up and it was too heavy for me to comfortably use bed risers. I heard too many horror stories of those giving way and the legs going through them... so I bought a pair of Ikea Vika Artur trestle legs and a matching table top for my cutting table. It's height adjustable which is super sweet. That might be a good way for you to go as well.. so if you are cutting a lot, you can raise it up and when you are ready to sew, you can lower it down....

If you are looking for a table and are able I would really suggest something that your machine can set down in giving you a flat sewing/quilting surface. If you don't find anything that is to your liking/price range, there are a lot of directions out on the web showing you how you can change existing tables/desks to this set up. If you have someone handy, I would suggest looking and finding one that suits you.

As the saying goes..."been there done that" for years!!! If you have the space buy a table, or deck at a reasonable price and use that. You will be thrilled.

This table has adjustable legs?

I have 2 of these tables in my studio! I love them. I am a pedal to the metal kind of sewer. They are sturdy and I get no chatter or jumping with them. I am thinking of bying the sewezi table for my featherweight esp when I teach r take classes. As I have a dedicated quilt studio I did not need to hide my sewing or quilting items. Luann in CT

I have two of the Sauder sewing tables. I bought mind from Walmart for $99, shipping free if you have them delivered to the nearest store. I reinforced mine with long finishing nails, just to make sure. Been using them for over a year now and they are doing fine.

I just looked at that Sew Perfect table website, and it looks nice and sturdy. But, it sure is pricey, $399 & $70 shipping for the table, plus $78 & shipping for the plexi insert. That's over $550, ouch! I will check them out at the next quilt show to see what kind of deals they have.

someone asked if the sewezi had adjustable legs. No, but since the machine is down inside, it only takes a little adjustment to my office chair to be totally comfortable. It would be a suggestion for them to make it adjustable and even better. But it might now store easily if the legs move as it is engineered to fold up with a certain length leg.

The office chair gives me the cushioning, back support and adjustability that I need.

That was me. I want a table that is height adjustable. I have tall legs and like to be up higher in a adjustable chair. Love SewEZ otherwise.

I just got a "Taylormade" sewing machine cabinet.
I like the fact it will close up when I need to room again for guest.
It was put together, We just had to add wheels and the handles.

I bought an old sturdy large desk at a thrift store for 5 bucks. Re-inforced the middle drawer and cut a hole in the top to set my machine down in. Works great!

My husband recently made my sewing table from the tutorial on Sew Many ways. It is made with two night stands ( piked up at Salvation Army for $14) and a door that was in our garage. Works great.

Two saw horses and an 8 x 4 foot set up at the right height for my cutting table and next to it is a computer table for my sewing machine. Not fancy at all but totally works for me.

Sew Ezi table is be very best portable, lightweight, sturdy table I have ever seen. My Sweetie bought one for me and I have the insert to fit my go-to Pfaff 7570 and if I decide I want other inserts they are available.

Really, this THE ONE...never on sale, but sometimes you can get extras at a show. Oh, and if you have ten in your guild that will buy, you will get free shipping, I think...no quoting me on that, but I seem to recall this.

I recommend the SewEzi Portable table. I have had it for about 3 yrs now and it is one of the best investments that I have made. I have several machines and I bought the different insert to use depending on what machine I am bringing with me to retreat. I set my smaller machine on it when I am home so when my granddaughter comes over she can practice her sewing. I love it and I can't say enough about it.

This exact cabinet is sold on Walmart.com and right now it's $119. I've seen it in person and it is quite nice - lots of storage and comes in different colors/finishes! I personally use a garage sale freebie that the woman was putting to the curb at the end of the day!! Her husband even helped me load it into my truck!! Right place at the right time - gotta love it!

There is tables and nice sewing machines at hsn.com. They also have flex=pay. I have a sew-ezi and I love it.

I have that same sewing table. Did not know it comes in black.

this is the table i have my janome in also. i love it. really stable. the plastic tables will wabble when you get to really sewing unless you place a board under your sewing machine.
i really like my sewing machine sitting right down INTO the table. but the idea about purchasing a old table then cutting a hole, and sitting your machine down into it was great. i just wanted something i could order, set up, and use, without my busy husband having to 'remake'. wish i had have gotton the 'sew perfect' table yrs ago. a little pricey, soooooooo handy.

We put 2 inexpensive (used) dressers that were the height I was looking for back to back then DH used 3/4" plywood to make a top. He used a piano hinge to extend it another 2 feet that I can put up when I am cutting and down when I don't need the extra cutting space. I love having the drawers underneath. Luckily I have room for this kind of set up.

This is the one I have and since I need it to close up when not in use, as it is in my laundry/sewing room, it is perfect. We also have one of these in our "quilting room" at church that we all like. Fortunately it was much less when we purchased these. The price was a closeout at $79.00. The price today is still a good one for what it is and it is made well.

I have a door that was about $40. I put it on top of those plastic storage cabinets that have wood on the top. Since it's 6 feet long, it's great for sewing and cutting.

There are very nice 6 ft long sturdy white plastic ones at Staples and other office supply places. The legs fold out and if it is not needed for a while it can lean against a wall. Go take a look. (they also come in a 4 ft length)

Old reliable wood door with legs adjusted just for you!! You can find unfinished doors at the big box stores and paint it whatever color you like.
