I would mix them if they looked good together. Also, sometimes the solid really allows the batiks to shine.

I do that all the time. Here's one I made (still needs to be quilted), only batiks and black solid for sashing and borders.

I prefer the intensity of a solid black with batiks. I have done at least 4 quilts with batiks and very black sashing - no washed out blacks for batiks.

I mix batiks and regular fabric all the time, no problem. I do test the batiks for color fastness since I have learned the hard way that when I press batiks with steam they sometimes bleed on the ironing board cover.

This is my first time posting to this site. So forgive me if I am not correct. Aneal, did you use a pattern for this stained glass quilt? Also, what line of batiks did you use? It is stunning. Thank you.

I mix solids and batiks all the time. So far...the quilt police have not shown up at my door.

There aren't many rules in my quilting room. Mostly I use the "if it looks good, do it" theory.

i use a black batik. I just really love batiks and like keeping it all batik.
