I love barn quilts! My husband recently made me some to hang on the wall in my sewing room. They weren't painted bright colors. He used a wood dye/stain so the grain would show through.

Those are unique. A nice addition to your home. They look very classy.

My curmudgeon of a DH said he wanted to surprise me, but couldn't, because he wouldn't know what block to use. I was totally shocked!
We have a friend who offered to do the work for us for free! Of course we'll give him something, but it won't break the bank. We're providing the materials. If I'm lucky, I'll have it before the local quilt show, but I'm not counting my chickens. I'm just ecstatic that I'm finally going to have one!!!!

I keep saying I'm going to make a couple, but so far I've not! Looking for the right metal "signage board".

Do the neighbors pay your mortgage and taxes? To heck with what they think.

When I asked my DH for color input, he declined. Says he has absolutely no preference. So I don't think he'd care about the block itself (but I'll have to ask, now that you mention it). As for colors, I like all kinds of color, but don't want to scare my neighbors.

If you're going to use the carpenter's wheel pattern, how about using woody colors, tan, brown, dark cherry

Lucky you!! I love barn quilts and would love to have one.... if I only had a barn.....

All you need is a flat surface the size you want. Make one about 4' x 4' and hang it on the front of the house, or the end of the house or on a fence. Or make a smaller 2' x 2' or so and hang it like you'd hang a for sale sign.

LOL, jokes on me. this is an old thread----------------but I answered a couple posts with almost identical responses.

I'm still engineering my quilt!
