I was taught you always removed the water after use. Now it's not a problem, as I seldom use steam ... mostly a hot, dry iron! perhaps with a spritz of water, if needed.

I have NEVER heard of emptying the iron after each use and I would never do it. The mechanism is hard enough to get the water IN without spilling.

I've read it and I dont do it. It may set in there over night and thats about it. Mine gets used daily so theres no reason to dump it. However if I'm going to be gone for a few days I do empty. But I also unplug everything in my sewing room.

All the quilters I know that have Rowentas, claim they are notorious for leaking....guess that's why I don't have one. That and the high price tag!

hmmm have had one for years and never do that. it says to use tap water mostly. the water is hard here so i hardly use tap water.

Every iron I have ever had said to not leave water sit in it when not in use. The one time I forgot (I wasn't quilting, so not using often), when I did use it, it spit rusty water on my clothes. It was a mess.

I have a rowenta and I never empty it. I use it daily and the water never has a chance to sit. I use half spring water and half distilled. Not sure why...I was wondering why the other day when I was mixing the two gallon jugs.

Me, too! I got sick of leaky irons. I've never put water in my current one.

I never empty mine and I keep water in it all the time, use it on steam all the time. Use my well water, use it for quilting, pressing clothes, etc. everything. Never leaks!

Ditto what Tanya said... but then, I've never had a spendy iron either...if it heats up and does the job, I see no reason to spend more than I have to!
