Jenny at Missouri Star Quilt has a new Tutorial out

Was watching Jennys new tutorial yesterday on a Irish Chain Pattern.....have you seen it ??? Is that pattern really that easy ????? Great finished quilt behind her......

sewmary 08-04-2012 07:35 AM

Just watched last night. She is great and makes everything look easy. The quilt is beautiful.

Yes, it is that easy! :o My very first quilt was actually a Triple Irish Chain. I took a class, wasn't a sewer, had no idea about quilting. And I didn't have any problems. With the single Irish Chain - just those 2 blocks, alternating. With jelly rolls, you eliminate all of the cutting of strips, very nice!

Definately that easy. My first quilt was a double irish chain, and I have made many more since. The most recent one I made was a friendship quilt with over 300 signatures on it. Gotta love strip piecing!

I started quilting the same way - with a triple Irish chain. No classes or lessons at all. I think it is still my best quilt!

BellaBoo 08-04-2012 08:07 AM

Love Jenny! Her tutorials are better then many quilt classes I paid a lot of money for.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 08-04-2012 08:21 AM

I'm finishing up a double Irish Chain right now. Very easy.

Chicca 08-04-2012 10:41 AM

This is the Double Irish Chain quilt I am currently working on. They are wonderful, easy and so beautiful; in my honest opinion.

removed message was duplicate sorry

Tartan 08-04-2012 01:42 PM

I also love her version of Jacob's Ladder quilt. She really makes patterns easier.

Dolphyngyrl 08-04-2012 01:44 PM

My third quilt was an irish chain with hearts, very easy to do. I still haven't used it because it is to pretty to mess up, here is a link to mine on the board

Thanks for letting us know about the tutorial. After watching it, I can't wait to make an Irish Chain quilt. I love the double and triple Irish Chain quilts posted here; but I'm going for the easy single that Jenny demonstrated.

matraina 08-05-2012 05:54 AM

I love all of Jenny's tutorials. She makes everything look so simple. And, months ago, someone asked why you would buy precuts. Well, this is a goof reason.

cherokeerose 08-05-2012 06:20 AM

Jenny is my favorite teacher, there isn't anyone close to me where I can lessons/classes so I use videos and how to's on the web. I do watch others and some are very good, but I always go back to Jenny's tutorials. I have the Irish Chain on my to do list, I love them the single, double and triple, after watching Jenny's video I have most of the strip sets sewn for my 1st one. Can't wait to start putting it together.

That's where I saw the Oliso iron I wrote about. She's awesome! Love her tutorials.

I watched Jenny's tute on the Irish chain and had always thought that it was difficult. Now, I am going to make one. But, what is a double and triple Irish chain? What's the difference between them?

The Irish Chain is very easy! Here are some pics of my very first attempt, at a "real quilt" - a Triple Irish Chain. It's far from perfect but so far, it's held together. It was a birthday gift, for my mom, in 2009. I've been sewing for over 50 years but up until that quilt, had only pieced/quilted craft items. It's backed, with a blanket and the quilting is SITD.

Me too Bellaboo. She makes things so we can understand. Great site.

Have you siged up for Jenny's deal of the day. You get an email everyday with a fantastic bargin. I love Jenny. She is so generous to share her tutorials for free.

captlynhall 08-05-2012 11:53 AM

I don't think I would have had the courage to attempt my first quilt if it had not been for Jenny. I had checked books out of the library, and surfed the web for information, but when I found Missouri Star Quilt Co. on you tube, she took the anxiety right out. Actually watching as she made cuts, and sewed pieces together with her easy manner and straightforward explanations made it all seem doable. I got to where I was looking forward to that little jingle and QUACK!

Jingle 08-05-2012 01:03 PM

I made a triple Irish Chain years ago and still have it, it is put away. I made a lickety split in 2010 for my Son and it looks alot like the irish chain. I need to make more of them. Neither one was hard.

maryellen2u 08-05-2012 01:48 PM

Yes the Irish Chain is a beautiful and very easy quilt. It was also one of my first and continues to be a favorite!

Sewbeeit2 08-05-2012 02:06 PM

What a grea guilt and the borders really pop everything out. So happy you have the signatures to make it priceless.

Caswews 08-05-2012 03:49 PM

Jenny doesw an awesome job of explaining patterns for sure

danece 08-05-2012 03:50 PM

I made a double Irish Chain for my daughter in about three nights, yes it really is that easy, you should try one, the variations are unbelievable

4EVERquilt 08-05-2012 04:28 PM

I love all the tuts on Missouri Star Quilt Company. I'm going to do the one summer in the park. I have been saving fabric for it.

#1piecemaker 08-05-2012 04:42 PM

I love the double irish chain. All of the ones here are great!

SWEETPEACHES 08-05-2012 05:19 PM

To the best of my knowledge, Jenny does NOT have a tut for a double or triple, I was just going to look into a book and see what needs to be added and then use jennys methods of strips.....I don't think it will be that hard once you set your mind to it.

mimiknoxtaylor 08-06-2012 02:45 AM

I love Jenny's easy methods!

jeanneb52 08-06-2012 03:02 AM

Love her! She makes it all so doable.

thomp116 08-06-2012 03:11 AM

Just noticed this thread.......have been thinking about the Irish Chain since I saw the tutorial, too! And I agree, I use the Missouri Star tutorials as reference all the time. Watch out for that Daily Deal....it is addictive!

sustraley 08-06-2012 03:38 AM

Thanks for all this wonderful info. I am a newbie and not want to try this Irish Chain. :)

rj.neihart 08-06-2012 04:24 AM

Love it! Would like to take a class and learn this one...

WMUTeach 08-06-2012 04:25 AM

Neesie, I so enjoyed seeing your "first" quilt. I am so partial to the dark green print in your quilt. Have about 6 yards of that fabric waiting for the perfect quilt pattern. I think I have the medium green too. Interesting. I bought mine in Kalamazoo and yours are from Texas. Great minds love the same fabrics in our case.

After viewing the Jenny tutorial, I am now courageous enough to try the Irish chain too. I need to look at the double and triple to see if they can be as easy as the single.
