So JA's has the Accuquilt Go advertised for $199 for Black Friday. I called my local store and asked how many they would have in stock. She said one. CAN YOU BELIVE THAT? One.
But because it is not a 'doorbuster' item, it can be special ordered -- but doubtful it would arrive by Christmas.

What poor business practices...I have run into this so many times with them. I just will not shop there anymore. (I quit buying fabric there several years ago) Would rather spend
more $$ and get excellent customer service.

Flying_V_Goddess 11-24-2010 12:24 PM

They have something on sale for Black Friday and they'll only have one of them? That's just stupid. Everyone knows (particulary the retailers!) a lot of people shop on Black Friday to find deals on things they want to buy for Christmas gifts. So what's the point of ordering out something that may or may not arrive on Christmas (plus you'd have to pay the shipping for the item that could be stocked in the store)?

MZStitch 11-24-2010 12:27 PM

Since moving south I no longer have a JoAnnes' nearby, but years ago when I did shop them they would transfer fabric for me from a different store. Once they got it all the way from a Pennsylvania store and I lived in N.H. Ask the manager if she would have one transferred for you if you get there and that one is gone. If not, a letter to corporate is often a good thing! If its a great price, I'd try it.

stewyscrewy 11-24-2010 12:28 PM

They do that to lure you into the store to buy other items that look like thay have been marked down and they realy havent been. All big box sotres use this tactic. It has been talked aobut on most major tv new stations, but as long as we the consumers keep groveling to the super sales they will keep doing it.

Amen to that.

IrishNY 11-24-2010 12:31 PM

They have to have one if they advertise it or they can be charged with fraudulent business practices. However, I bet they are losing money on them at that price so they are going to sell as few as possible at that price and since they can't control demand, they will control supply. So typical.

amma 11-24-2010 12:32 PM

Many stores do this on black friday sales... it may be only one, two or a half dozen of that item to draw you into the stores...
So this isn't just Joann's

carolaug 11-24-2010 12:33 PM

Many stores will match the price...call around to other stores that do not have it on e sales.

beckyw 11-24-2010 12:34 PM

Wal-mart does that too on black friday. Also alot of other stores.

hlponyfarm 11-24-2010 12:55 PM

I bought my accuquilt Go on ebay. brand new and at the 199. price.

arbed31 11-24-2010 01:01 PM

They don't have good customer service anymore.

Annaquilts 11-24-2010 01:04 PM

They have that with thread boxes online too. I have tried for years and then they cancel the order. I think they hang it out there as bait and hope you will buy other stuff.

Joeysnana 11-24-2010 01:05 PM

J.C. Penney does the same thing. Formerly, I was a sales associate there. Black Friday was a nightmare. I understood the customers' frustration when the store only had 3 or 4 of their advertised special. Nowadays I stay far away from Black Friday. I happily sip a cup of tea and order online! :)

Momof3Es 11-24-2010 01:08 PM

With all that I have heard about them in the last couple of days I'm not sure I want to try and make it one of my 2 stops on Friday! But flannel at $1.99/yd!!! That's a good price right!!??

suzi 2 11-24-2010 01:15 PM

Sounds like a good price if they still have some left after 6:15 A.M.

BellaBoo 11-24-2010 01:23 PM

That sounds like Joanns. I was in Walmart yesterday and all teh Black Friday items were being stacked everywhere. Sure looked like at least a hundred or more of the bigger items. The Shark steam mop for $36, there were several pallets of them and stacks of dvd players, tv, and computers filled every spot in the electronic dept. The small appliances on sale for $2.50 were on pallets taking up the garden center. Pallets of toys were in the middle aisles. I don't see how anyone determined to get one special buy won't be able to at this Walmart. And you can buy the sales online too starting at 12, 3 and 5 am.

My flyer said flannel is $1.29 a yard. I usually go and buy several bolts but really watch it....sometimes the width is only 40" instead of 42-44".

Sounds right to me.

Don't they match competitiors price also? Take your ads with you.

CarrieAnne 11-24-2010 01:53 PM

Yeesh, one??????

plainpat 11-24-2010 02:54 PM

A couple posts mentioned a chain store would have iPads on Black Friday for $199.We called & was told that out of 8-10 stores in the city, only one would have it & they'd have ONE.
I'm too old to bother with Black Friday, but looks like a lot of ppl will be in for a shock after standing in line...rain/snow for hrs.I won't mention the shop name...why give them free publicity?

I bought some of the cheaper flannel and discovered that it had a wide printed selvedge with :
"Made especially for Joann's" so unfortunately it went into my quilt back. The fabric was only 39" wide after washing and removing that white white selvedge.

maryb119 11-24-2010 03:17 PM

Can you get a rain check for the item and purchase it later? It does seem unfair to just have one on hand.

SuziC 11-24-2010 03:34 PM

That's why i am staying home on BF!

DebraK 11-24-2010 03:36 PM

lesson learned yet?

117becca 11-24-2010 03:40 PM

there is nothing worth the time involved, fighting the crowds for a price that there isn't going to be enough to go around. I've gotta get tires on friday - I hope the place isn't full of husbands whose wives are our shopping

RevPam 11-24-2010 03:48 PM

All batting is 50% off plus a 20% off entire order, I gotta go!

plainpat 11-24-2010 03:52 PM

Have fun! Weather is going to be rainy here, so another good reason for me to stay in & stay warm:D

ditto!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ncsewer 11-24-2010 04:45 PM

That is a good price, just make sure of the quality. It might be the really lightweight kind that won't hold up.

The last time I bought flannel there on sale, it pilled up terribly after only 2 washings. NO THANK YOU!

Boop56 11-24-2010 07:10 PM

I agree with MZstitch. I used to manage a store in Ohio and they should be able to into there computer and find one in a store and transfer it. I am really sorry to hear that you got bad service. I would bend over backwards to get the sale.

yeh, the flannel is the only reason I will be in line at 6am at Joann's. our Q4K group needs backings. I just get a cart, grab a #, and load bolts. two of us work together.
those smaller bolts only hold 8 yds, so we buy mostly full bolts.

clair 11-24-2010 07:21 PM

what ticks me is they only have one-- are they going to lose money on just that one?? don't think so. I would lo0ve to have one but I don't fall for that big sale item any more since I found out that the morning of the saale the employees can purchase what they want at sale price before store opens. Maybe all of us should go into JA's and ask for the AC and when they say they are all sold we should just leave.

Quiltforme 11-24-2010 07:38 PM

The accuquilt site is having a sale try them the baby go is 139 and they have a bunch of dies on sale.

Rann 11-24-2010 07:44 PM

How about their web site?

nellie 11-24-2010 08:00 PM

have you seen on tv news how people fight to get items on black friday, last year two men shot at each other over some flat screen tv at walmart

It's not just JoAnns that does that. I worked at walmart and they did that on alot of items for black friday. That's why I don't shop on that day.

Toto's Mom 11-24-2010 08:36 PM

I was in my local Joann's a couple of weekends ago, and they had a sale on a sewing machine for $400.00.
I was having material cut, and a lady came in and wanted to see the advertised machine. The lady behind the counter told her where it was.
She came back and asked to have it taken out of the box so she could look at it closer, and see what all it amounted to. The employee told her she couldn't take it out of the box.
The lady asked to see the manager, and the woman told her that she WAS the manager, and that was her instructions.
The prospective customer got irate, and could not believe that she had to buy it first, to even see it out of the box. She had driven down from OK to buy this, but when she couldn't see any more than the box, she opted to forego any further dealings with Joann's.
I haven't had any bad dealings with this store, but certainly saw where that issue would have killed a possible sale.
