My new machine has an empty bobbon reminder but when I got the featherweight I had that problem. I've noticed the FW sounds different when there's no bobbin thread so I usually don't get too far. I have to say I like Charlene's solution - take a break and go to the fabric store. Sometimes you just need to clear your mind and start fresh.

Maybe the quilting gods were looking out for you. Perhaps they knew you weren't going to sew that row as well as you needed to so they emptied your bobbin for you so now when you do it again, it will be perfect and you will not have had to rip out all those stitches:D

I did that last night, too. On the Elna, I can tell by a slight difference in sound, but on my vintage Singer. I can't. Course, she is a little noisier than the bigger machine.

I learned that the hard way too so now before i start a strip of sewing i Always check the bobbin and have another ready to go :!:

Happens to me all the time.

My machine beeps at me, and when this one beeps, there is only a smidge of thread left on the bobbin.

Your bobbin thread is sentient. It holds a grudge. It knows what you did last summer. It will take its revenge by running out just as you reach the centermost topstitching on the two-year project you’ve been working on for your perfectionist mother-in-law who, by rights, shouldn’t have vision that perfect at her age anyway.
It will laugh at you. Just don’t retaliate because the sewing needles will return fire. If they can’t skewer you they’ll throw themselves across the train tracks. You know. For the Gipper. |
one machine lets me know when bobbin is low but when I'm working on my other machine, I often stitch along with no thread.....so frustrating. chocolate is my comfort:_)
|
Mine beeps, but when it does, there is still a lot of thread left, so I am now in the habit of not paying attention to it, and yep, I run out and keep sewing.
|
That happened to me today.
