I think some changes in values would be nice. Having some darker borders. Maybe a row of flying geese. You can keep the work you have done and just add some other darker colors and fabrics for texture. Frame some of the other blocks.

How about setting the blocks into Attic Windows since you don't have enough of the colorful fabric to frame them? If the quilt is for a boy, you could use a dark blue and a lighter blue for the frames and different shades of pink for a girl.

I’m overwhelmed with all your responses! Thank you for each and every one of them - and of course I like everything that has been suggested.

I have just purchased some more of the fabric I had thought of using for the frame but I’m now wondering whether to go that way or not and I’m now wondering about changing the colour of the border fabric.

I had also thought of top stitching the borders with contrasting threads.

I think this project will have to be put to one side until I make my mind up.

I think the sashing color you have used blends very nicely with the blocks.

The animals and numbers stand out from it - I think there is enough contrast.

Moira- that piece you added is cute but I think it overwhelms those blocks. I really like the first picture but if you want to change it maybe do a different sashing but a bit more subtle.

For ideas, this is one of my favorite tutorials. I know you didn't ask but just sending it along to you.

Love Donna Jordan - her videos are some of the best!

Framing them would be nice, but, you could also just do a couple rows of a decorative stitch in the sashing with some brightly colored thread. Or, stitch down some very wide RicRac in the sashing.

I'm with whomever suggested white for the sashing. White would make the more muted colors in the panel "pop", without overpowering them. I'd do my best to match the white that's already there, so that it looks like it "belongs".

I might pick a color that is in the panel (or the tan you are already using) to make a piano key border with the white, then bind in the second color.

The border really brightens it up. I like it.

Definitely needs a frame. If you don't have enough of this fabric try alternating with other fabrics eg. checks, small dots or stripes. I did a baby quilt where each block had either some kind of check or stripe or dot in it and it came out very cute
