Just finished the top of a bargello, I would now like some ideas as to how to quilt the top, any suggestions will be greatfully received.
thanx in advanced |
Beautiful. I like FMQ lines that follow the design. I'l like to hear what other people do in bargello quilts.
Very very pretty. A Bargello is on my 2013 bucket list. I'm curious to see the suggestions you get for quilting.
generally with bargello's the design is so busy that the quilting lines don't really show up much- an all over curvy design would work fine- (real detail quilting) would just be lost. you could do wavy lines following the waves of the design- so you continue the flow. it is a very nice bargello...it looks like the exact fabrics that are shown on the pattern cover---was it a kit?
no it wasn't a kit, I bought the Pattern but bought the fabric myself
It's gorgeous. I'd never be able to do it, I'd have to take motion sickness medicine LOL.
I don't have any idea, but that is a Wow!! Way too much beautiful!!! quilt top...Congratulations!
Wow this is gorgeous congratulations on getting it done this far! A Bargello is on my bucket list. I agree with ckowl about the quilting :)
Gorgeous Bargello!! You did a fantasic job. Maybe just follow the design, diagonally through the squares stopping where each colour stops. Looking at other pictures of that bargello, I can't find any that show the quilting
OOooo, That quilt is just lovely.
love the quilt and your colors
If thread color choice is a concern I've done a couple of bargellos with monofiliment thread and I agree with the complexity of the design an all over quilting will be great as it will keep the focus on the bargello pattern. It is beautiful!!!!
Very beautiful!

I think that feathers fit very well in bargello quilts. Here are pictures of some gorgeous bargellos that I saw in the 2012 MQX West show. I like the way the flowing feathers add so much to the quilt design. The swirls, though beautiful, don't really seem to go with the design IMHO.
What a gorgeous quilt top!!! I agree with FMQ to follow the flow of the bargello.
I think an all over design, like a panto type would be fine, something simple and not demanding your eyes to follow, otherwise it will take away from the bargello itself....your bargello has lots of movement, but also lots of sharp angles and starts/stops....so trying to follow the pattern would be difficult ....just my opinion
Oh my goodness, that is beautiful! Fantastic! Wow.
Wow! That is amazing! In some quilts the quilting is the star, in some the fabrics are the star, and in some the piecing is the star- yours is obviously one of these, so I would do very simple quilting so as to just complement the intricate piecing. Beautiful job-
I agree with the follow-the-flowing-lines quilting suggestions. And I loved the comment about the motion sickness! (I get that way with Storm At Sea sometimes...)
Gorgeous quilt top. Alison |
Your quilt is beautiful!!! Seeing the feathers really opens my eye and I think that would look great!!!
Wowser! Gorgeous bargello! :) You could quilt just following the lines of the design. JMHO~
This top is the finest bargello that I have seen. Thanks for sharing the beauty!
I love bargellos! You did a great job!
Stunning quilt :)
Beautiful.....definitely the feathers....those are beautiful ones from the show.
No suggestions, just wanted to say absolutely gorgeous quilt!!!
Pat yourself on the back...you did a wonderful job!
It came out great!!
This is so beautiful! I have no idea that would do your quilt top justice.
That is just beautiful!!!! If only I could make a quilt top like that!!! I know, be patient, and someday I will be brave enough. :)

Looks great!
Beautiful bargello.
Beautiful quilt! I have no comprehension of what it must have been like to make it. It looks so complicated to me.
Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous, and I love your color choices. Sorry, but I have no idea about a quilting design, but an intricate pattern would be lost, so I would opt for something simplre that would enhance the design of the bargello.

Bargello quilting

I've down several Bargello quilts. The first one I did, I SID - bad, terrible idea - it didn't look bad, but all the turning was a nightmare! So now, I FMQ, usually treating several similar colors/rows as one. I'll choose a color that would look good on those several rows and then do some sort of design, whether its a feather, or just meandering, across those rows. Then I change thread as the colors change. I've drawn on this pink ribbon Bargello to sort of illustrate what I mean. Sorry it's on it's side - don't know what happened!
Fabulous job!! It's just stunning. Like others, it's on my bucket list...someday. I think the best suggestions are from Dunster and Quiltmom04. I have seen bargellos that had truly blah quilting and unless it's practically invisible, it detracts from the beauty of the quilt. I think the feathers or some type of design will enhance the quilt. Good luck and post pictures.
That is absolutely beautiful! How long did it take you?
Amazing.... I love bargello
That is beautiful. I am so afraid to start one. I have a book and read the patterns but I am so intimidated and that is a lot of material to just jump into cutting it if I can't finish it. I don't know anything about the quilting but thank you for sharing your quilt.
It's beautiful! I'm also "all ears" when it comes to the advice some will give you. I've not made one yet.
