I am laid off and could sew every day But I have to say other than remaking a pair of drapes I have not sewn for almost a month and I have two projects to get done by May!! I spend all day surfing on here!

littlehud 02-12-2011 07:00 PM

I work 12 hour days so I don't have the get up and go to quilt when I get home. I sew on my days off though.

Jingle 02-12-2011 07:01 PM

I sew 5-6 days a week, I really miss it when I don't sew.

Shunem 02-12-2011 07:04 PM

I sew almost every day because it's my job. Good thing I love it 'sew' much!

BRenea 02-12-2011 07:06 PM

Sometimes I will sew every day for two or three weeks, then I might go just as long without sewing a stitch. Whenever I have free time...

earthwalker 02-12-2011 07:07 PM

I try to, but due to the current dry spell and strong easterly winds I have to bucket water my plants if they are to survive. Like Gal, I have decided to handpiece in the evenings if I can...I have a GFG which I really want to finish.

Lol! what she said!

Before I retired I thought I would sew every day but days go by without sewing, sometimes time slips by or the mood doesn't come.

pookie ookie 02-12-2011 07:17 PM

I generally sew every day. Travel, illness and other deadlines get in the way but I've sewn every day since last September.

That's not marathon sessions. I just thought it would be fun to see if I could sew a single block every day and for how long. When I'm busy, I make a 2" block. I print them out in bulk and way in advance. If I have time for TV or helping an annoying neighbor with something or going online, then I have time to sew.

I have diminished eyesight and a serious health problem so my time feels limited. Sew as much as I want while I can. And, maybe if I'm lucky, I'll get sick of it so I won't miss it.

cathyvv 02-12-2011 07:22 PM

I make a point of not sewing every day...it would become too much like a job. I want to enjoy quilting for as long as possible, Am somewhat 'Type A' personality when doing things I enjoy, and, over the years have discovered that obsessively doing anything quickly takes the fun out of whatever I am doing.

the casual quilter 02-12-2011 07:26 PM

I sew every day that I can get my hands on my machine. My husband jokes that if I were addicted to cocaine instead of sewing he would be dollars ahead. He might be right.

happymrs 02-12-2011 07:31 PM

I am a homebody, but I don't sew everyday either. I would be afraid of burning out, if I did, so I quilt when I feel like it, & for as long as I feel like. Might be an hour or so, or several hours, just depends. I also hurt my back last year, & it started hurting again around xmas, so went to dr., & now I am going to physical therapy for it, & yes, it's helping. But when I sew now, when my back gets tired, or starts aching, I quit. Just enjoy whatever time you do it, & do it when it works for you. I don't how some do it everyday, & some even seem to mass produce quilts. I am in no rush & thoroughly enjoy it when I spend time doing it...

cjr 02-12-2011 07:33 PM

Most times I sew about 5 days a week 4-6 pef day. There are times when I do not sew for a few days. Depends what is going on with and around me. I'm retired and making up for 38 years working a very full schedule. My mind needs a break also. With the cost of gas skyrocketing, driving(running around)& traveling have to be limited.

xsquilter 02-12-2011 07:34 PM

I don't sew/quilt everyday either. I'm saving my energy for my retirement!!!

CarrieAnne 02-12-2011 07:52 PM

Wish I could, but I cant either.

quilt addict 02-12-2011 07:54 PM

I'm lucky to sew a couple days a month. So you are a not alone.

debidoo 02-12-2011 07:56 PM

I only sew on weekends. Too tired by the end of a work day to sew. And I do not sew well when tired.

C.Cal Quilt Girl 02-12-2011 08:07 PM

Don't sew every day, just a bunch :)
Can't believe I'm saying this but sometimes other things come first.

fabric_fancy 02-12-2011 08:35 PM

i do something related to quilting every day.

i'm either dyeing fabric, cutting fabric, piecing, quilting, or laying out computer designs for the next project.

connie_1936 02-12-2011 08:55 PM

i sew most days but i'm retired and get bored if i'm not doing something

cathylynn 02-12-2011 09:11 PM

I usually only get a couple of days a week of sewing in. but that time is usually 4 - 6 hours at a time so I guess I'm not missing out on my 'me' time.

sewwhat85 02-12-2011 10:28 PM

i could only wish to sew everyday

Right answer!!!!!

suebee 02-12-2011 10:43 PM

I dont sew everyday. I go in spurts. I do hand work when I dont feel like working on machine.

jajudd24 02-12-2011 10:47 PM

I dont get to sew everyday...all my machines shout as I go by...no doubt when I plan to sew someone else changes those plans. Lol

montanajan 02-12-2011 10:47 PM

Nope, don't sew every day. I'm a retired RN & I'm still too busy to sew every day. I go in spurts - quilted like crazy before Christmas, currently poking along with charity quilts that really need to be finished soon.

sew_southern 02-13-2011 01:06 AM

Some weeks I get to sew 2-3 times, other weeks I don't get any sewing done. :(

I do not sew every day because since doing my version of Baltimore Bliss Applique quilt I need to trace the patterns onto fusible web and then iron onto the fabric before placing it onto the background fabric. That take at least 2 days just doing that and one day to sew it with the machine and blanket stitch. I then have to pull the threads to the back and tie them securely ---that is another afternoon. except now I tried to sew my finger to the block, lucky no blood hit it.

19angel52 02-13-2011 03:13 AM

..would love to sew some every day - but even as a retiree, it just doesn't happen....!

Heather Hayllar 02-13-2011 03:17 AM

I do NOT sew every day!!
There are other things to be done... occasionally the odd bit of housework, swimming to cool down in the stinking heat this summer, maybe read a book or on the computer!!

You are not alone :)

Only Sew when I'm in the the mood, other wise make to many mistakes...LOL

Jackie D 02-13-2011 03:45 AM

I retired 2 yrs. ago. I do sew everyday. and I love it.I make samples for LQS, and teach 2 classes a month. I raised 4 children and have 10 grandchildren and 1 great. They all have quilts.

emerald46 02-13-2011 04:04 AM

Me too! I may have a marathon day or two of 4-6 hours and not get back to the projects for a week or more...and then for just brief periods. I do volunteer work and have a couple of Bible Study classes each week, plus a husband that take up alot of my time.

Beth Dishong 02-13-2011 04:06 AM

I am home on permanent disability so I do get to sew everyday. I would lose my mind if I couldn't sew everyday. I use the machine or work on a project I have that I need to sew by hand. There were many, many years that I worked outside the home and couldn't sew. I hate that I am unable to work any longer but, I love that I can now sew when I want.

Nope, don't sew EVERY day, but would like to. Now that I have a machine upstairs I may be able to sneak in for a few minutes a day. I'm working on it.

pam1966 02-13-2011 04:45 AM

I stay at home, but I don't sew every day.

wyckedquilter 02-13-2011 04:53 AM

I don't normally sew on my work stretch..but when I'm off, I usually get 2-3 days in... :)

chamby 02-13-2011 05:05 AM

I too do not get to sew everyday. I work full time and sew when I can. Although right now I am sewing everyday b/c I have king rag quilt to finish before next Saturday for someone.
