A dear friend's Mom has Alzheimers. She still likes to do counted cross-stitch on pre-printed quilts. She is supposed to
only stitch thru the top layer to hide the back. But she is not quite able to do that anymore.

So when she finishes a quilt, her DD brings it to me and I re-quilt it with a nice back to hide the stitches. Then her DD does a binding and gives it back to her Mom.

Mom gives it as a gift to her G-grands. Mom has commented that she is doing fine still since she can XS and still hide the stitches. (She has already forgotten they showed at one time because her DD told her not to worry about it...when she was all done it would look just fine)

A labor of love and happiness for all 3 of us and for the recipient too.

Happy Quilting, Kathy

I'm planning on working on a quilt I'm making for my son's friend who got married last year. The block is called "God's Eye" with lots of pieces but it's a gorgeous block. I'm working in batiks.

Thank you for your service!

Oh I haven't sewed a round piece yet, but since these are frayeded edges it doesn't have to be perfect. The wash will make them fray nicely and distract from any imperfections.

patchsamkim - Awesome project you're working on. I'm sure it will be deeply appreciated. People do tend to get chilly during chemo etc. You're an angel.

Our LQ group is working on a *paint chip* challenge that's due at our October meeting. I have waffled for the last time. Time to fish or cut bait...lol I'm going to do a little reverse applique' in Americana colors, and try my hand at some beading on it etc.

Putting binding on a quick comfort quilt for my sister that recently had surgery. She does so much for everyone else so I decided it was time for someone to do something for her. Will try to post a photo after I finish.

JayCee 09-05-2011 06:33 AM

What a kind and loving thing you and your friend are doing for her Mom.

Grinster 09-05-2011 07:10 AM

I am working on a quilt for a baby to be born next month. Have a pattern that calls for 36 (4.5" sq) with a floral leaf in each one so 4 blocks together have a pinwheel of 4 different pastel colors. I have them all cut and heat & bonded to the edge of the blocks. I am trying to applique the raw curved edges and they are turning out horrible! I have a Pfaff. What settings should I use with a zig zag stitch to make a satin stiches smooth? What kind of thread and bobbin thread is best??? Thanks for your help! Grinster

I'm quilting a baby quilt with Farm-All fabrics. Its time to get it finished as his birthday is the 16th and I need to get it to MA before then Fooled around with my Brother 1500 and gave up trying to get the tensions adjusted, so am doing it on the Brother 9000. Going like a silk purse! I'll post when I'm finished.

quiltingcandy 09-05-2011 08:32 AM

No quilting for me - I get to stay with my 2 year old great niece and nephew wile their mom rides in the parades and rodeo shows and their dad works. They are so precious!

justme CA 09-05-2011 08:35 AM

I am looking at all the stitching that must be going on all across the United States and around the world this holiday weekend and am AMAZED. One can almost hear the whir of machines and scritching of thread passing through cloth. You are all laboring with love this Labor Day!

I am working on a double Irish chain in greens and florals (scrappy) for a friend of many years. All this, so I can sew up all my fabrics for FUN. So I can buy more, of course. Keep stitching!!

I need to work on at least three things.

A baby blanket that needs to be done by Thursday, not too far from being complete.

A wedding gift table runner that is due on the 17th. I've not even decided for sure what to make. I have some nice coffee cups, saucers and a big wide not too tall vase that I have to match.

And I need 200 of those quilted stars done by Dec. 1.

So, what am I doing today?

I have to take some time out and sort some hand sewing needles. I've got my needles everywhere. Never know where the ones are that I need "right now". What's worse, I made myself a "needle book" to keep what I need handy. Well, the cross stitch is not complete, but it's done enough to hold needles. Where is it? WHO KNOWS?

I want to work on a quilt for my husband but can't get myself to make the first cut.

Twisted Quilter 09-05-2011 09:29 AM

Not sure if I'm getting lazy or just need to take vitamins, but I have no energy for quilting today. I may try a caramel cake someone posted in the recipe section but that's about all I can muster up today. I had a Red Bull but that's not even working.

macygma 09-05-2011 09:36 AM

I will be striving to get my grandson's 'Nakes quilt ready for quilting, making magnets for a craft fair and, if time allows finishing up my Mystery Quilt top. Pieceful Times by Debbie Caffery. I love it!

Pat R 09-05-2011 09:42 AM

Well.. when I started it was a turning 20 project but now it looks like a turning 20 3/4.

SheriR 09-05-2011 09:45 AM

I'm making my first D9P too. They're hand quilting it tomorrow night and it's going to be auctioned at a fund raiser for "Flywithout Wings". An organization that provides equestrian therapy for the disabled. I'm very nervous about it. Lol. I just got the fabric yesterday at church.

Kayaker26 09-05-2011 10:36 AM

I finished up the top and back for a Yellow Brick Road(my first)love it! But since my quilting still isn't great I want to practice on some UFO 2 lap quilts and a baby quilt. Back to work I go....thanks for the distraction!
